Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joseph Dddddd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jordan Mondello! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Josh West and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mondello tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dddddd swats him away and circles back towards the center. Dddddd fails with a takedown attempt from distance. A momentary lapse in concentration from Dddddd enables Mondello to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dddddd manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Mondello got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dddddd has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mondello has managed to get both his arms back between Dddddd's legs - danger averted. Dddddd wants to sweep here but Mondello controlling him for the moment. Mondello wants to stand but Dddddd is controlling his posture from full guard. Dddddd working a defensive guard here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Joseph Dddddd wasn't doing enough on the ground. Mondello decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. It looks like Mondello is going to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Still in half guard, Mondello seems content to control. Mondello tries to stand and escape but Dddddd is controlling the position. Mondello is keen to just control but Dddddd is a slippery customer. Mondello wants to stand but Dddddd has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Mondello is trying to control the action in half guard but Dddddd is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Joseph Dddddd wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Mondello darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Dddddd makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Mondello shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dddddd's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Dddddd wants to get back to his feet but Mondello is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Mondello trying to control the position from guard on top but Dddddd is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mondello tries to avoid it but Dddddd manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mondello to the ground. Mondello escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mondello wants to clinch. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Mondello showed some decent athleticism there. Mondello decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Dddddd kicks off Mondello and gets to his feet. Mondello shoots in and bounces Dddddd off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Dddddd has his foot on Mondello's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mondello works his way back into a safe position though. Mondello must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mondello really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dddddd. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. This has been an exciting period of action! Mondello trying to control but Dddddd is working from the bottom. Mondello takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Dddddd looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mondello is one step ahead there. Dddddd is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Joseph Dddddd. Dddddd fails with a takedown attempt. Dddddd gets caught flat footed, as Mondello shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Mondello prevents Dddddd from getting back to his feet. Mondello wants to get up but he can't break Dddddd's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Joseph Dddddd has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Mondello shoots in and bounces Dddddd off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Mondello not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mondello trying to control but Dddddd is working from the bottom. Joseph Dddddd has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jordan Mondello is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Mondello has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dddddd is proving hard to escape from.
And that's the end of the fight! Jordan Mondello comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Mondello has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
