PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Abel Koponen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roger Uzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Uzi's choice of entrance music: Slipknot's Psychosocial . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Abel Koponen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roger Uzi!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uzi takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Koponen feints and as Uzi raises his hands in defense, Koponen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Koponen with a flurry of punches that miss.
Koponen throwing strikes from guard but Uzi blocks nicely.
Koponen won't allow Uzi to sweep him here.
Uzi can't keep his opponent in guard - Koponen advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Koponen passes the guard and advances to mount!
Koponen lands with some strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Koponen is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Uzi keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Koponen swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Uzi is now in Koponen's guard. A big mistake from Koponen there, giving up the dominant position!

Koponen looking for a guillotine here but Uzi defends easily.
Koponen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Koponen trying to keep a closed guard but Uzi is proving a slippery customer.

Koponen wants to sweep here but Uzi controlling him for the moment.

Koponen working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Uzi has passed into half guard!

Uzi tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Koponen.

Koponen wants to control the action here but instead Uzi manages to pass to full mount!
Koponen is looking to improve his position but Uzi isn't that keen on the idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Koponen tries to hold on but Uzi postures up.
Koponen manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Koponen is trying to get back to full guard.

Uzi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Koponen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Uzi throws a body punch but Koponen moves out of range.
Uzi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Koponen.
Uzi bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Uzi digs a good hook to Koponen's body.
Uzi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Uzi jabs Koponen right on the nose. Koponen blinks but takes it well.


It looks like Abel Koponen has been cut.
Koponen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Uzi swivels and escapes.
Uzi connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Koponen momentarily.
Koponen looks to land a combination but Uzi avoids it well.
Roger Uzi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Uzi misses with a head kick.
Uzi looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Uzi is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Uzi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Uzi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Uzi throws a right and a left that both miss.
Uzi tries to clinch there but Koponen circles away.
Koponen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Uzi is fending him off so far but Koponen persists. Nope, Uzi circles away and we're back to standing.
Uzi moves out of range of the strikes.
Uzi misses with a looping right.
Uzi misses with a jab, cross combination.
Uzi throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Koponen's head.
Danga de danga de dang - Uzi scores with a four punch combination!
Uzi plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

A head kick misses from Uzi.
Uzi swings for the body but Koponen moves out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Uzi. Koponen does a little dance to reset his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Koponen lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Uzi backs up against the cage.


It looks like Roger Uzi has been cut.
Uzi drops his hands momentarily and Koponen takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Uzi looks to land a combination but Koponen avoids it well.
A head kick misses from Uzi.
Uzi Rushes Koponen and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Koponen is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Uzi Piles on the pressure and Koponen crumples to the floor! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Roger Uzi!
A very excited looking Roger Uzi made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
