PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simeon Grundy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniels comes into the arena with Beast Mode blaring out of the sound system. Grundy has chosen Enter Sandman as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Jack Daniels has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jack Daniels seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Daniels!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Simeon Grundy!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Grundy darts in and clinches Daniels up against the cage.
Nice elbow from Daniels.

Grundy jumps into guard, dragging Daniels to the mat.
Daniels stands and throws Grundy's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Daniels tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Daniels has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Daniels working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Daniels is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Grundy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Daniels thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Grundy has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Daniels has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Daniels manages to escape to a better position under a series of strikes. Grundy is now in side control.

Grundy is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Daniels has escaped the position, nice work there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daniels parries the strikes from Grundy easily there. Grundy is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Daniels to escape.
Grundy wants to control but Daniels is keeping him busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Daniels gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

That's time! Daniels's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Daniels tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Daniels throws a wild body kick that Grundy sees coming a mile off.
Grundy throws a one two combo.
Grundy checks the leg kick nicely there.
Grundy ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Daniels clinches up with Grundy and pushes him back against the cage.
Grundy takes an elbow to the forehead.

Grundy gets control of Daniels's arms and successfully pulls guard. Grundy will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Grundy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Daniels wants to pass the guard but Grundy is keeping the position.

Grundy has his foot on Daniels's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Daniels works his way back into a safe position though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Daniels postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Grundy is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Daniels, into his guard.

Grundy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Grundy unloads with some shots from mount but Daniels bucks and avoids them well.
Poor strikes thrown by Grundy there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Grundy is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Daniels knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Daniels for a finish.

Simeon Grundy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Daniels drops back, looking for a kneebar! Grundy looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Grundy looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Grundy!

Grundy has hold of Daniels's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Daniels manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Grundy postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Daniels looks a forlorn figure.

Grundy ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Grundy no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
