Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Demetrius Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Timothy Archer! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson blocks a head kick by Archer.
Nelson moves into range and clinches up with Archer. With the two fighters working up against the cage, Nelson just misses with a elbow thrown towards Archer's brow. Nelson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Archer misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Archer tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Nelson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Archer tries to land a sweep but no joy. Archer trying to keep a closed guard but Nelson is proving a slippery customer.
Archer keeping full guard, as Nelson tries to pass. Archer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Timothy Archer. Nelson has Archer up against the cage in a clinch.
Nelson pulls guard. Nelson has his foot on Archer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Archer works his way back into a safe position though. Nelson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Archer trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Nelson is working an open guard so Archer takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Nelson gets a clinch. Nelson is defending well against a takedown attempt. Archer is looking for a takedown. Nelson wants the takedown. Archer is fighting it off but Nelson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Archer's guard against the cage. This has been an exciting period of action! Nelson won't allow Archer to sweep him here. Nelson is fighting to break Archer's control of his arms but Archer is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson tries to free his leg and advance position but Archer is retaining full guard. Archer looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Nelson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Archer tries for a takedown but Nelson circles away easily and Nelson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Archer's guard now. Demetrius Nelson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Timothy Archer. Nelson is breathing heavily. Nelson looking to sit in guard and control but Archer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Nelson holds on and takes a little breather. Nelson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson pulls Archer in to control the position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The ref stands the fighters back up. Demetrius Nelson wasn't doing enough on the ground. Nelson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Nelson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nelson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Demetrius Nelson dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Archer swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nelson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Archer circles away quickly and effectively. Nelson darts in and clinches Archer up against the cage. Archer has Nelson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Nelson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Nelson successfully pulls guard.
Nelson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Nelson has his hands on Archer's head, controlling the position. Archer slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Archer tries for a kimura but Nelson is defending well. Archer wants to take a breather but Nelson manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Archer. Nelson is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Nelson successfully pulls guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson looking for a sweep. Not yet Nelson, not yet. Archer trying to control but Nelson is working from the bottom. Archer is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Archer preventing the sweep. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Archer throws a big right hand that misses. Archer passes Nelson's left leg - he's now in half guard. Nelson is trying to get back to full guard. Nelson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Nelson tries to get out of the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Archer is trying to control the action in half guard but Nelson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Demetrius Nelson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Nelson trying to control but Archer postures up.
Archer missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Archer is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Nelson! Archer gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Archer looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. No luck with that takedown attempt from Archer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Horrible takedown by Archer or perhaps it was just good defense by Nelson which made him look bad. Demetrius Nelson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Timothy Archer. Nice cross by Nelson. Nelson tries a head kick but it misses.

Nelson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Archer tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Nelson is in Archer's guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Nelson looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Nelson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Archer on the ground. Archer throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Demetrius Nelson will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Nelson slaps away a takedown attempt from Archer, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nelson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Archer is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Nelson has just dragged him back down to the mat. Archer is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Archer looking for a sweep but Nelson has passed into full mount! Oh no! Archer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Nelson looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson wants to take Archer's back here but Archer is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nelson looking to control and managing it successfully. Nelson lands a big shot there that rocks Archer but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Archer is looking to improve his position but Nelson isn't that keen on the idea.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Archer can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Nelson stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Archer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nelson is fending him off so far but Archer persists. Nope, Nelson circles away and we're back to standing. Nelson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Archer is trying to defend but Nelson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Archer wants to control but Nelson is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Archer might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Nelson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Nelson trying to control the pace. Nelson drops an elbow to the side of Archer's head. Archer punching from the bottom.
Nelson gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Nelson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Archer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here as Nelson stalls from top position. Archer struggling a bit here. Archer gets back to half guard. Archer trying to control but Nelson postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Archer is trying to get back to full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Demetrius Nelson showed his dominance in that final round. Well Nelson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
