PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nick Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Shane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shane has chosen Another Me by Peroxwhygen as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nick Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Shane!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shane changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kim looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kim is looking for a sweep.
Kim could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kim is working hard here to advance position.
Shane prevents Kim from escaping the position.
Kim striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Shane remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Kim manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Kim is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Shane keeping hold of Kim's head, controlling as best he can.

Kim is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Kim is looking for a kimura but Shane is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kim to get the leverage.

Shane tries to get to full guard but Kim has control of the leg.
Kim wants to control but Shane is keeping him busy.

Kim is looking for a kimura but Shane is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kim to get the leverage.
Kim throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Kim is trying to work for a kimura but Shane is defending well.
Kim seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shane does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kim is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shane holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Kim thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shane's head.

Kim is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shane doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kim.

Kim is working for a submission of some sort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Kim dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Shane shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kim napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Nick Kim overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Shane landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Shane is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Kim looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Shane pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kim is keeping the position for now.
Shane controls from within his opponent's guard.

Shane has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kim is proving hard to escape from.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Nick Kim wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Kim blocks a head kick by Shane.
Shane looks to score with a jab to the body but Kim is just out of range.
Shane fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Shane delivers a nice body kick.
Jack Shane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shane drives through with a takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kim is looking for a triangle but Shane pushes his legs off easily.
Shane tries to free his leg and advance position but Kim is retaining full guard.
Shane really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kim. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kim looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kim is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Shane throws a big right hand that misses.
Kim might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Shane is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shane trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jack Shane was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Shane feints and as Kim raises his hands in defense, Shane changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Shane got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kim has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shane has managed to get both his arms back between Kim's legs - danger averted.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shane accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shane controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kim is looking for a triangle but Shane pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Shane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Kim working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shane doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Kim is tightening it up a little... Shane has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Shane reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Shane taps out! Nice BJJ there by Kim!
