PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between The Boru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gareth Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boru comes to the cage accompanied by rocky . I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gareth Lewis was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, The Boru!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gareth Lewis!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Lewis lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Boru has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Lewis tries to close the distance and clinch but Boru swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Boru dives in and scores a takedown into Lewis's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Lewis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lewis wants to stand and escape but Boru is having none of it.
Boru controls from within his opponent's guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gareth Lewis wasn't active enough on the ground.
Boru tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lewis swivels and escapes.

Lewis fails to land the takedown.

Boru decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Boru seems to be working for a kimura but Lewis defends the submission attempt.
Boru perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Boru looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lewis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Boru stands up out of the half guard.
Boru circles away from the clinch attempt.
Lewis misses with a takedown attempt - Boru sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
The Boru has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gareth Lewis.
Boru fails to land the takedown.

Lewis lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lewis is looking to clinch but Boru is avoiding it.
Lewis misses with a wild combination.
No luck for Lewis with that takedown attempt.

Boru tries to score with some ground and pound. Lewis controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Boru is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Lewis has managed to free his arm - good work.
Ground and pound from Boru.
Boru really is a fat lump.

Boru slips a nice elbow through Lewis's hands, connecting with Lewis's forehead.
Lewis wants to improve his position but Boru is controlling well.
Lewis wants to control but Boru is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Boru looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lewis wants to get back to full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Boru thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Lewis is looking to get back to full guard here but Boru has managed to pass to side control instead.

Boru stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The Boru dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Boru takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Lewis displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Boru.
Lewis tries to clinch but Boru is having none of it.

Lewis throws a head kick but Boru moves out of range.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Boru is defended easily by Lewis.
Lewis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Boru but Boru pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The Boru has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gareth Lewis.

Boru is landing with some decent strikes but Lewis is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Boru cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Boru cracks Lewis with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Lewis is bucking up trying to escape but Boru cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Boru controlling the pace for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boru postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Lewis looks a forlorn figure.

Lewis really wants to buck Boru off and get back to his feet.
Lewis is wriggling around trying to escape.

Boru goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Lewis turns into him and now he's in Boru's guard.
Lewis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lewis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Lewis wants to stand and escape but instead Boru has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Boru stands up over Lewis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Lewis is trying to control the position but Boru postures up.
Boru connects with a couple of short punches.
Boru advances to half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Boru takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boru wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lewis keeps working.
Lewis wants to control but Boru is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The Boru dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Boru will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

We're going to have a standup here because The Boru wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Boru is working for a kimura but Lewis is defending it quite comfortably.

Boru wants to pass to mount but Lewis is defending the position.
Boru thows a huge punch but Lewis dodges it nicely.
Boru is looking to take a break and control but Lewis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Boru is looking for a kimura here.

Lewis on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Boru wants to control but Lewis is keeping him busy.
The Boru is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boru prevents Lewis from improving his position.
Lewis is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Boru is taking a breather. Lewis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

And that's the end of the fight!
The Boru showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Boru, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, The Boru was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
