Sakkinen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Rotten Sound - Burden kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marcus Watson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikko Sakkinen!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sakkinen has managed to clinch.
Watson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sakkinen walks away with a smile on his face. Watson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sakkinen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Watson.
Sakkinen throws a head kick that misses.
Sakkinen lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Sakkinen instigates a clinch.

Sakkinen breaks from the clinch.
Watson tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Sakkinen is able to avoid easily.

Sakkinen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Watson clinches up against the ropes.

Sakkinen goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Watson shoots and misses
and Sakkinen counters with a good low kick that Watson was not able to check.
Mikko Sakkinen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sakkinen drives through and clinches with Watson against the ropes.

Sakkinen is pressed up against the ropes. Watson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sakkinen down to the mat. Sakkinen avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Watson has Sakkinen pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Sakkinen manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Watson keeps control of Sakkinen as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sakkinen is looking to break free of the clinch but Watson has double underhooks.
Watson is working for takedown but Sakkinen is calmly controlling the position for now.
Sakkinen comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Sakkinen is trying to maintain a safe position but Watson gets an underhook and turns Sakkinen into the ropes.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Watson throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Sakkinen tries to land a knee to the head but Watson blocks with his arms.
Sakkinen wants to break the clinch but can't.

Sakkinen misses with an elbow strike.

Sakkinen lands a knee to the head.
Sakkinen gets underhooks to prevent Watson's takedown attempt.
Sakkinen has had enough of the clinch but Watson keeps him there for the moment.
Watson takes a knee right on the jaw!

Sakkinen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Sakkinen drives through and clinches with Watson against the ropes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sakkinen tries to land a knee to the head but Watson blocks with his arms.
Sakkinen gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Watson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Sakkinen using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Watson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mikko Sakkinen dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Sakkinen's jab looks to have found its range, popping Watson under the eye.
Sakkinen displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Watson.

Sakkinen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Watson was covering up waiting for the punch and Sakkinen finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Sakkinen wants to stand and escape but instead Watson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Sakkinen is looking to stand up but Watson isn't so interested in that idea.
Watson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Sakkinen keeping moving, preventing Watson from controlling successfully.

Watson is really struggling to control Sakkinen but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Marcus Watson wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Sakkinen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Watson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Watson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sakkinen's guard.
Sakkinen wants to stand but Watson is controlling the position.
Watson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Sakkinen pulls Watson in close to prevent any damage.

Sakkinen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Watson trying to control the position from guard on top but Sakkinen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We're going to have a standup here because Marcus Watson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Watson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Watson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sakkinen sprawls well. Sakkinen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Watson gets slowly back to his feet.

Sakkinen has picked Watson up - he's going for a ride! Sakkinen dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Sakkinen wants to control from the top but Watson keeps moving.

Sakkinen stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Watson throws up his legs and catches Sakkinen in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Sakkinen tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Watson! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Marcus Watson!
