The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wa Za Banga fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Carvalho on the side of the head.
Carvalho closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Carvalho wants to work for an arm triangle but Wa Za Banga is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Carvalho postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Wa Za Banga to stand up.
Wa Za Banga throws a leg kick but Carvalho sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Wa Za Banga is trying to reverse the position but instead Carvalho has taken his back - oops!

Carvalho is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Wa Za Banga has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Carvalho has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Wa Za Banga taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Carvalho doesn't care though - he's delighted!
