PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bryant Whitaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Master Puncher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bryant Whitaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Master Puncher!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitaker throws a sloppy head kick and Puncher moves out of range easily.
Puncher bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Whitaker drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
You can see the frustration on Puncher's face as Whitaker controls the position.
Whitaker's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Whitaker in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Whitaker creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Puncher sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Whitaker looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Whitaker is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Puncher will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The ground and pound from Whitaker seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Whitaker controls the position.

Whitaker has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Puncher.

Whitaker looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Puncher!
Whitaker has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Puncher's face.

Puncher working to try and regain half guard.

Whitaker working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Puncher wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Whitaker working for a choke but Puncher is defending well.
Whitaker just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Puncher lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Whitaker gets a double leg takedown into Puncher's guard.

Whitaker gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Whitaker lands a right hand that snaps the head of Puncher backwards.

Whitaker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Whitaker clinches up with Puncher and pushes him back against the cage.
Puncher misses with the head strike.

Whitaker jumps into guard, dragging Puncher to the mat.
Whitaker has his hands on Puncher's head, controlling the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Whitaker is on top in guard.

Puncher is looking to sweep but instead, Whitaker has passed into half guard.
Whitaker takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Whitaker thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Whitaker controlling the action here.
Puncher is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Whitaker scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Whitaker is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Whitaker perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Puncher is looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Whitaker is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Puncher!

Whitaker is standing up, even though he is in mount.
A decent looking cross lands there for Puncher.
Whitaker uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Puncher.
Puncher looks to land a combination but Whitaker avoids it well.
Whitaker walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Puncher clobbers Whitaker with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Puncher moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Whitaker has managed to clinch.
Puncher wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Whitaker gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Whitaker content to control rather than advance.
Whitaker throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Puncher is defending against the submission attempts here by Whitaker.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bryant Whitaker dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Puncher tries to keep at a distance but Whitaker has taken the fight into the clinch.
Whitaker tries to land knees in the clinch but Puncher avoids the damage to the body.

Whitaker ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Whitaker no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Puncher throws a strike but Whitaker rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Whitaker postures up.
Whitaker works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Whitaker is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Puncher can do to turn this around?
Whitaker content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Whitaker escapes and gets back to his feet.

Whitaker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Puncher napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Whitaker is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Puncher is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Puncher is looking to regain half guard here but Whitaker keeps moving and retains side control.

Whitaker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Whitaker happy to just control the position for now.

The strikes coming from Whitaker are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Whitaker tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Whitaker is staying tight to Puncher's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Master Puncher has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Whitaker landing strikes.
Whitaker works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Puncher gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Bryant Whitaker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Whitaker takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bryant Whitaker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Whitaker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
