Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mano Soares! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alisson Cavalcantti! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Soares fails to land the takedown. Nice sprawl there from Cavalcantti as Soares shoots in. Soares connects with a jab. Cavalcantti feints and as Soares raises his hands in defense, Cavalcantti changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Soares is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Soares escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cavalcantti gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Cavalcantti trying to control the position from guard on top but Soares is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Soares being controlled here, momentarily. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Soares had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cavalcantti defends it easily. Cavalcantti working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Cavalcantti must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Soares looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Soares has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Cavalcantti is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Soares. Soares sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Soares looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Cavalcantti wants to stand up but Soares is controlling the position.
Soares is looking for a sweep. Cavalcantti is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Cavalcantti really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Soares. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cavalcantti is trying to work for a kimura but Soares is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Soares looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Cavalcantti throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Soares has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Cavalcantti. Oh but Soares has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Cavalcantti goes limp - he's gone! Soares jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
