PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between James Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Ferguson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Josh Ferguson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Ferguson!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ferguson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Jackson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ferguson has a takedown stuffed.
Ferguson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jackson tries to avoid it but Ferguson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jackson to the ground. Jackson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jackson tries to clinch but Ferguson is having none of it.
Ferguson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jackson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Jackson.
James Jackson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Josh Ferguson.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ferguson tries for a takedown but Jackson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ferguson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jackson.
Ferguson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jackson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ferguson avoids the head kick by Jackson.
Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ferguson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jackson drives through and clinches with Ferguson against the cage.
Jackson has Ferguson pressed against the cage, preventing Ferguson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Ferguson is trying to maintain a safe position but Jackson gets an underhook and turns Ferguson into the cage.
Jackson blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Jackson tries a body shot but Ferguson blocks it.

Jackson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Jackson wants to control but Ferguson passes easily into half guard.
Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ferguson on the ground.
Jackson gets back to full guard.
Jackson pulls Ferguson in close to prevent any damage.

Ferguson wants to stand but Jackson is controlling his posture from full guard.

Ferguson wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ferguson closes the distance and clinches up with Jackson, looking for a takedown. Ferguson pushes Jackson against the cage but Jackson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jackson dives in and grabs Ferguson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ferguson pushes down on Jackson's head and hops out.

Jackson wants to clinch but Ferguson slips to the side
and Ferguson counters with a nice uppercut.

Jackson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ferguson has worked his arm free - good work by Ferguson!
You can see the frustration on Ferguson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jackson tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ferguson is trying to get back to half guard.

Jackson creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Ferguson is looking to regain half guard here but Jackson keeps moving and retains side control.
Ferguson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jackson is working for a submission of some sort.
Ferguson wants to control the action here but instead Jackson manages to pass to full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackson feints and as Ferguson raises his hands in defense, Jackson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Jackson gets to his feet. Ferguson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Ferguson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ferguson wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Jackson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jackson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jackson is trying to keep Ferguson in close.

Jackson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ferguson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ferguson wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ferguson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ferguson wants to control but Jackson is keeping him busy.
Jackson is trying to control but can't.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Josh Ferguson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ferguson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jackson is surviving well by controlling Ferguson's body position as best he can.
Ferguson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jackson is looking to escape.
Ferguson manages to capitalize on a mistake by Jackson to take his back!

Ferguson connects with a big shot to the side of Jackson's head.

Ferguson is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Jackson is defending well though. Ferguson let's go of the attempt for now.

Ferguson is controlling the position but Jackson somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Ferguson stalling away here and it's allowed Jackson to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Jackson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jackson seems to be working for a kimura but Ferguson defends the submission attempt.
Ferguson wants to control but Jackson passes into side.

And that's the end of the fight!
Josh Ferguson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ferguson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
