Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Good Fighter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andy Gurvits! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gurvits is defended easily by Fighter. Gurvits darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Fighter trying to control here.
Gurvits is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fighter is just riding it out for now. Gurvits eventually gives up the hold. Gurvits trying to control the action but Fighter is working from the bottom. Fighter won't allow Gurvits to pass to mount. Gurvits should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gurvits seems to be working for a kimura but Fighter defends the submission attempt. Fighter is not content to let Gurvits control the position. Gurvits with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Fighter is looking to control Gurvits's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fighter avoid being mounted? Gurvits is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gurvits is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fighter sees it coming and defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fighter wants to get back to full guard. Gurvits is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Gurvits is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gurvits is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Fighter is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
