Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Layne Staley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artum Ruska (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Staley might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Alice in Chains - No Excuses. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Layne Staley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Artum Ruska! The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Staley blocks a head kick by Ruska.
A nice inside leg kick there by Ruska. That's going to slow Staley down. A punch combination from Ruska misses. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Ruska walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Staley will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Staley works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. A chopping leg kick lands by Ruska. Staley fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Staley tries to keep at a distance but Ruska has taken the fight into the clinch. Ruska tries to throw a body punch but Staley avoids it by throwing Ruska back against the cage. Ruska looking for a takedown. Knees in the clinch landing for Ruska.

A combination from Staley does no damage. Staley is breathing heavily. Ruska tries to clinch but Staley is having none of it. Ruska fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ruska is looking to land body kicks. Staley misses with an uppercut. Ruska closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes. Staley swings wildly with an uppercut but Ruska uses good head movement to avoid it. Staley working aggressively here.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Staley takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Ruska blocks a body shot from Staley. Staley takes a knee right on the jaw!

Staley throws a combination that misses and Ruska makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Staley misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ruska.
Ruska tries to clinch up. Ruska throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Staley stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Ruska follows into mount!
Staley is rocked!
It looks like Layne Staley has been cut. Staley defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ruska. Oh Staley is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Ruska is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Staley has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ruska is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Staley can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Ruska has hold of Staley's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Staley manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Staley seems to have got his legs back now. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Staley regains half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Staley is looking for a sweep. Ruska is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Staley is staying active underneath Ruska, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Ruska is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Staley defends it well. The fighters are battling for position here. Staley manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Ruska won't allow Staley to sweep him here. Staley is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ruska wants to control from the top but Staley keeps moving. Staley working for a triangle but Ruska defends it easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ruska drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ruska jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Ruska wants to control from the top but Staley keeps moving. Staley looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ruska passes into half guard.
Ruska wants to lay and pray for a moment but Staley keeps working. Staley makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Staley.

Ruska drops back looking for a leg! Staley is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Staley manages to kick Ruska off! Ruska jumps back into Staley's guard. Staley looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ruska postures up in Staley's guard and throws a big left but Staley blocks it. Ruska avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Ruska passes easily into side control. Nice work. Staley tries to buck Ruska off but Ruska is having none of it. Ruska has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Ruska dodges the punch combination from Staley.
Staley drops his hands momentarily and Ruska takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Staley works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Staley goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Ruska wants to clinch up but Staley keeps it at a distance. Danga de danga de dang - Staley scores with a four punch combination! Staley fails in his attempt to clinch. Staley takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Ruska misses with a looping left. Ruska throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Staley takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

The fight stays on the outside here - Ruska looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Ruska tries to close the distance and clinch up but Staley swats him away and circles back towards the center. Staley loads up on a big right hand but Ruska slips the punch. Ruska takes a shot to the body in his stride.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Ruska uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Staley. Staley loads up on a big right hand but Ruska slips the punch. Staley looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Ruska moves in looking to clinch but Staley pushes him off. Ruska plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Staley crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Ruska - the referee stops the clock and Staley gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Ruska. Staley manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Staley on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Ruska looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Staley jabs Ruska right on the nose. Ruska blinks but takes it well. Staley lands with a nice combination. Ruska backs away looking to recover. Staley lands a hook that stumbles Ruska back into the ropes. Staley follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Ruska to the canvas! Staley pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Ruska has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 8:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Layne Staley!
