Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ahoy Matey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Player! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Player wants to get back to his feet.
Matey keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Player pushes Matey off and gets back to his feet. Player scores with a shot to the body.
Matey closes this distance looking for a takedown but Player circles away. A nice combination there by Player.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Player with a body punch. A glancing blow. Matey is breathing heavily. Player misses with a series of wild punches.
Matey shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Player pinned against the cage. Player gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Player will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matey motions for Player to come forward. Matey throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Player stalks Matey and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Matey's face. Matey staggers backwards, shaken. John Player is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Matey fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Player to the ground. Matey is now in Player's guard. Player manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Matey takes a shot right to the bread basket. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Matey looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ahoy Matey. That's going to take a lot out of him. Matey defending well as Player loads up on a big left hand. Matey uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Player. Player throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Matey sees it coming and avoids it easily. Matey goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Player will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Player throws a looping overhand right but Matey ducks down to avoid it. Player throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Matey throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Player was covering up waiting for the punch and Matey finishes the takedown easily into guard. Matey has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Player uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Player misses with a double jab.
Matey slips a jab and a cross from Player.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Player throws out a loose jab but Matey uses good head movement to avoid it. Player misses with a two punch combination.
Player tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Matey was well out of range. Poor timing from Player. Sloppy strikes from Player. Those never looked like landing. Player misses with a jab, cross combination.
Player lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Matey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Horrible takedown by Matey or perhaps it was just good defense by Player which made him look bad. A looping hook to the body misses from Player. Matey does a little dance to reset his feet. Matey slips under a jab. Player displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Matey. Player throws a nice looking combination but Matey bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Player misses with a jab, cross combination.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Player changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Oooooh!!! Player has knocked Matey down with a huge combo! Player steps away and waves a wobbly Matey back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Matey is rocked!
It looks like Ahoy Matey has been cut. Matey circles to his right, straight into a beautiful hook by Player. Matey falls face first into the canvas - great knockout victory for Player!
