Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josh Curran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Pontes!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Curran throws a series of punches but Pontes moves out of range.
Curran really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Curran tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pontes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Curran somewhat.
Pontes blocks a head kick by Curran.

Pontes forces Curran back against the cage and clinches.

Pontes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pontes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Curran swivels and escapes.
Pontes shoots in for a takedown but Curran shows good takedown defense.
Curran wants to clinch.

Curran scores with a takedown into Pontes's guard.
Curran would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Pontes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Curran defends it easily.

Curran has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pontes is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Curran drops back looking for a leg! Pontes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pontes manages to kick Curran off! Curran jumps back into Pontes's guard.

Pontes pulls Curran in close to his closed guard and prevents Curran from doing any damage or advancing position.
Curran tries to free his leg and advance position but Pontes is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pontes shoots in but no luck this time.

Curran dives in and grabs Pontes's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pontes pushes down on Curran's head and hops out.

Curran shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pontes sprawls well. Pontes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Curran gets slowly back to his feet.

Nice takedown defense from Pontes. No joy for Curran on that attempt.
Pontes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Curran shoots in looking for a takedown but Pontes manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Curran's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Curran fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pontes avoids it really well and circles away.
Pontes shoots for a takedown but Curran saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nice takedown defense from Pontes. No joy for Curran on that attempt.

Pontes moves into range and clinches up with Curran.

Pontes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Curran shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pontes but Pontes pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Pontes throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Felipe Pontes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


No luck with that takedown attempt from Curran.
Curran lands a slapping body shot.
Pontes throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Pontes fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Curran has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Pontes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Curran avoids it really well and circles away.

Curran closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pontes quickly recovers to half guard.

Pontes has hold of Curran's hands but Curran slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Curran is trying to work for a kimura but Pontes is defending well.
Curran seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pontes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Pontes wants to improve his position but Curran is controlling well.

Curran keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Josh Curran has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Curran tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pontes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Curran misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Pontes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Curran was covering up waiting for the punch and Pontes finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Pontes shoots in and drives through. Curran sprawls well.

and Curran counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Pontes takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Curran drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pontes gets the underhooks and prevents it.

I would just about give that final round to Felipe Pontes.
I think Pontes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
