PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Jorge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Super Slayer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jorge's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Back in black. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Jorge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Super Slayer!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slayer moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.


It looks like James Jorge has been cut.
Slayer slaps away a takedown attempt from Jorge, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Jorge gets a takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Slayer can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jorge sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Slayer defending well though.
Jorge not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Slayer is staying active underneath Jorge, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jorge is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Slayer is just riding it out for now. Jorge eventually gives up the hold.

Slayer is trying to control but can't.
Slayer is not content to let Jorge control the position.
Slayer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jorge is working away from the top position though.
Jorge is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Slayer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jorge.
Super Slayer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jorge closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Slayer's guard.
Jorge has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Slayer controls Jorge momentarily but Jorge frees himself.

Jorge drops back, looking for a kneebar! Slayer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Slayer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Slayer!
Jorge is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jorge tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Super Slayer wasn't active enough on the ground.
Slayer lands a nice hook to Jorge's body. Jorge takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

and Jorge counters with a left and a right that stings Slayer.
Slayer thows a left - swing and a miss!
Slayer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jorge shoots in for a double leg but Slayer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Jorge. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jorge creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Slayer sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jorge looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jorge lands with a hook. Slayer tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Slayer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jorge.
Jorge steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Slayer.
Jorge throws a right and a left that Slayer avoids nicely.
Jorge uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Slayer.
Slayer scores with a crisp jab that stopped Jorge in his tracks.
Jorge closes this distance looking for a takedown but Slayer circles away.

Jorge shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Slayer napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

James Jorge overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jorge is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Slayer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Jorge content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Slayer misses with an uppercut
and Jorge counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Jorge moves out of range of the strikes.
Jorge keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Slayer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jorge manages to avoid it.
Jorge lands with a nice body punch.
Slayer scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Jorge doesn't seem bothered though.
Slayer swings for the body but Jorge moves out of range.
Slayer lands a slapping body shot.
A big left from Slayer misses.
Slayer takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Jorge avoids the body shot from Slayer.
Slayer missing with a left hand there. Jorge was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Jorge fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Slayer to the ground. Jorge is now in Slayer's guard.

Jorge is looking to work some ground and pound but Slayer has wrist control.
Jorge wants to control from the top but Slayer keeps moving.
Slayer wants to sweep here but Jorge controlling him for the moment.
Jorge throws a big elbow that misses.

Slayer pulls Jorge in close to his closed guard and prevents Jorge from doing any damage or advancing position.

Jorge takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Jorge uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Slayer.
Slayer throws a lazy right hand but Jorge sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Slayer moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jorge misses with a double jab.
Nice uppercut lands for Slayer. That snapped Jorge's head back.
James Jorge is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Slayer seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to James Jorge.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jorge, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
