Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Clay Guida! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mateusz Napierala! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good work by Guida as he checks the leg kick. Guida shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Guida showed some decent athleticism there. Guida is thwarting Napierala's attempts to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Guida not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Napierala wants to get back to full guard. Napierala trying to control from the bottom.
The fighters are battling for position here. Napierala manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Napierala is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Guida preventing the sweep. Napierala seems keen to control Guida's posture. Napierala avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Guida thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Guida throws an elbow that misses. Napierala uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Guida's guard. Nice move by Napierala! Napierala wants to pass the guard but Guida is keeping the position. Guida working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Napierala. Guida knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Napierala on the ground. Guida is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Guida is breathing heavily. Guida trying to keep a closed guard but Napierala is proving a slippery customer.
Napierala wants to get up but he can't break Guida's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Napierala working some strikes from top position. Napierala wants to control from the top but Guida keeps moving. Napierala postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Napierala gets to his feet. Guida looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Napierala moves into the clinch. Guida lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Napierala regains full guard. Nicely done. Napierala looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Guida is defending well. Napierala quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Guida has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Napierala celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
