Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tony Bova (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyle Sutton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bova comes to the cage accompanied by I came to bring the pain!. Lyle Sutton told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tony Bova! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lyle Sutton! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sutton with a poor takedown and Bova counters with a nice double leg into guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Sutton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bova gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Bova got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sutton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bova has managed to get both his arms back between Sutton's legs - danger averted. Bova throws a big right hand that misses. Bova postures up and lands a big shot to Sutton's brow. Bova scoring with some ground and pound. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Bova postures up in Sutton's guard and throws a big left but Sutton blocks it. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bova avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sutton managing to control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bova postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Sutton throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Bova landing with the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bova postures up in Sutton's guard and throws a big left but Sutton blocks it. Bova throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Bova wants to control from the top but Sutton keeps moving. Sutton working a defensive guard here.

Bova is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Sutton wants to sweep but no luck. Sutton is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bova defends well. Sutton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bova gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Bova working some strikes from top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sutton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Bova scoring with punches to the head and body. Bova content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bova pushing down on Sutton's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Sutton wants to control but Bova is keeping busy.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sutton can do anything to dispel that myth. Bova missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bova connects with a nice short shot to Sutton's temple. Sutton tries to roll over but Bova keeps him under control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sutton wants to control but Bova is keeping busy.
Bova scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Bova looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Bova working over Sutton with some ground and pound. Sutton looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Bova not landing any meaningful shots this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sutton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Sutton has hold of Bova's hands but Bova slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Bova is looking to advance position but Sutton won't allow it. Sutton on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Sutton pushes Bova off looking to stand but Bova dives back in and keeps control.
Sutton looks gassed! Bova seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Sutton is looking to improve his position.
Sutton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bova is working away from the top position though. Bova looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sutton with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Bova passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sutton! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bova postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sutton looks a forlorn figure.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bova lands with some strikes. Bova landing shots from mount. Sutton is bucking up trying to escape but Bova cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Bova landing shots from mount.
Sutton is rocked! Sutton in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Sutton is still in real trouble! Can Bova finish him? Bova punishing his opponent with strikes. Sutton really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Sutton swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Sutton seems to have recovered his senses. Sutton keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! BOOM! Bova connects with a massive shot to the dome!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sutton tries to clinch there but Bova circles away.
Sutton shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bova pinned against the cage. Bova gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Sutton displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bova. Sutton pushes Bova up against the cage in a clinch. Sutton tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Sutton has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Bova after a bit of a struggle. Bova has Sutton pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Bova pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Sutton tumbling to the mat - Bova dives into Sutton's guard. Bova working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Sutton is breathing heavily. Bova works over Sutton with some ground and pound from guard. Bova working some strikes from top position. Bova has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Sutton has his foot on Bova's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bova works his way back into a safe position though. Bova stands up over Sutton, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Bova chips away with some ground and pound. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bova scoring with punches to the head and body. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Sutton is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bova pulls his head out easily. Bova working over Sutton with some ground and pound. Sutton looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Sutton has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Bova escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Bova! Sutton taking a bit of punishment here - Bova scoring with strikes. Bova scoring with punches and elbows. Bova cracks Sutton with a big right hand but Sutton just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Tony Bova overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Bova looks up at the clock and then as Sutton takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Bova smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bova working the ground and pound. Bova in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Bova cracks Sutton with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Bova immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Sutton is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Bova!
