Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hideo Nomo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oscar Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Nomo might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Down Rodeo. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hideo Nomo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oscar Ortiz! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ortiz plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Nomo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ortiz as he avoids it easily. Nomo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ortiz as he jumps to the side. Hideo Nomo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nomo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ortiz's waist but Ortiz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nomo off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hideo Nomo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nomo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ortiz circles away. Nomo keeps the fight on the outside. Nomo fails to land the takedown. Nomo shoots in for a double leg but Ortiz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Ortiz throws a head kick that misses. Nomo fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Nomo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ortiz pinned against the cage. Ortiz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Nomo shoots for a double leg takedown but Ortiz sprawls well. He's pushed Nomo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Nomo is breathing heavily. Ortiz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Nomo, pushing him back against the cage. Ortiz is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Nomo can't fight it off and eventually Ortiz manages to take the fight to the floor. Nomo looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Nomo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Ortiz looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ortiz trying to stand up but can't free himself from Nomo's guard. Ortiz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Ortiz preventing the sweep. Ortiz trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Nomo manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Ortiz is striking off his back. Nomo thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard. Ortiz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Nomo is looking for a kimura but Ortiz is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Nomo to get the leverage. Ortiz kicks Nomo off and gets back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nomo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ortiz as he avoids it easily. Ortiz throws a right and a left that both miss. Ortiz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Nomo! Nomo is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ortiz landing strikes from the mount. Nomo sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Ortiz is trying to control the action in half guard but Nomo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Nomo looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Ortiz works his way into full mount! Ortiz controlling from the full mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nomo is in all sorts of trouble here.
Ortiz swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Nomo is now in Ortiz's guard. A big mistake from Ortiz there, giving up the dominant position! Nomo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Ortiz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Nomo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Ortiz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nomo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ortiz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nomo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nomo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Ortiz looking for a guillotine here but Nomo defends easily.
Nomo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Nomo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Ortiz trying to control the position.
Ortiz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nomo is one step ahead there.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. A nice combination there by Ortiz.
Nomo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Ortiz counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Nomo! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Oscar Ortiz dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Ortiz has Nomo up against the cage in a clinch.
Ortiz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Nomo pulls him back up using the underhooks. Ortiz is working for takedown but Nomo is calmly controlling the position for now. Ortiz wants a takedown.
Hideo Nomo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oscar Ortiz. Nomo tries to score a body lock takedown but Ortiz shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Ortiz has Nomo pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ortiz pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Nomo tumbling to the mat - Ortiz dives into Nomo's guard. Nomo has his foot on Ortiz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ortiz works his way back into a safe position though. Ortiz wants to pass the guard but Nomo is keeping the position. Nomo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ortiz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ortiz looking to pass the guard.

Ortiz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nomo swivels though and keeps the full guard. Ortiz is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ortiz looking to pass the guard. Ortiz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Nomo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Nomo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Nomo!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nomo moves into full mount! Nomo looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. This has been an exciting period of action! Ortiz tries to get back to half guard but can't. Nomo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Ortiz manages to regain half guard. Good work. Nomo passes to full mount! Ortiz keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ortiz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Nomo wants to take Ortiz's back but he can't do it this time. Ortiz gets back to half guard. Ortiz trying to hold on to Nomo's head to control him but Nomo postures up.
Nomo is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Ortiz has managed to free his arm - good work. Ortiz is pressing down on Nomo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Ortiz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Nomo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nomo. Nomo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Nomo keeping full guard, as Ortiz tries to pass. Hideo Nomo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Nomo has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Ortiz doesn't defend quickly enough and Nomo has managed to lock this one up! Can Ortiz escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Nomo on a fantastic submission victory.
