PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Savo Tieros (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artie Lange (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tieros comes into the arena with Self Esteem-The Offspring blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lange tries to clinch
and Tieros counters with a nice kick to the body.

Tieros fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lange, pushing him back against the cage.

Lange takes a knee to the side of the body.

Lange looking to throw knees to the head but Tieros is blocking nicely.

It looks like Artie Lange has been cut.
Lange wants to take the fight to the mat but Tieros manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Tieros defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lange.
Tieros throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
A low kick from Lange is predictable there
and Tieros counters with a three punch combo that has Lange backing up. Lange nods at Tieros to acknowledge the strikes.
Lange is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Lange working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tieros doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tieros manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Tieros throws his legs up looking for a submission but Lange uses it to pass to side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Lange decides to stand up, so the ref orders Tieros to his feet.

Lange tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Tieros manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

That was a close round but I would say that Savo Tieros will probably get the nod.

Lange is looking for a triangle but Tieros pushes his legs off easily.
Lange is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Tieros wants to pass the guard but Lange is keeping the position.

Lange is breathing heavily.
Tieros feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Lange's calf.
Lange displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tieros.
Lange takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Lange fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tieros to the ground. Lange is now in Tieros's guard.

Tieros has an active guard here but Lange has managed to pass into half guard.

Tieros pushes Lange off looking to stand but Lange dives back in and keeps control.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lange lands a nice short elbow.
Lange is nestled in close to Tieros, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Tieros kicks off Lange and gets to his feet.

Lange shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lange showed some decent athleticism there.
Lange wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tieros keeps working.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Tieros makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Lange really felt that one!
Savo Tieros is winning the standup battle so far.
Lange takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Tieros goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Tieros has closed the distance and engaged Lange in a clinch.
Lange takes a knee right on the jaw!
Tieros working the clinch nicely. Lange is working for position but Tieros cracks him with a big knee to the head! Lange crumples up against the cage and Tieros lands two more shots before the ref can save Lange! This one is all over!
