10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pit Bull! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bull doesn't manage to clinch there - Nelson circles away.
Bull is looking to clinch but Nelson is avoiding it.

Nelson connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Bull gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Nelson tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. The referee calls for Nelson to work.

Bull unloads a knee to the mid-section. Bull tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Bull gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. A quick uppercut on the inside from Nelson. Nelson stalling in the clinch but Bull improves position. Nelson taking a breather. Bull pushes Nelson back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Nelson has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Bull is trying to keep an underhook but Nelson manages to get the takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nelson prevents Bull from standing back up.
Bull really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nelson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Nelson missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bull tries to kick Nelson off but Nelson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Nelson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nelson controlling the pace. Bull looks like he's trying to stand up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Nelson lands a slapping body shot.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Bull is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Ground and pound from Nelson. Nelson missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Nelson trying to control from half guard but Bull is working away. Nelson is taking a breather. Bull says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bull can do anything to dispel that myth. Nelson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bull with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Nelson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson lands with a punch from half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bull wants to get back to his feet. Bull is not content to let Nelson control the position. Bull tries to kick Nelson off but Nelson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Nelson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bull defends it well. Nelson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Nelson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bull's head. Nelson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bull keeps working. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Nelson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Nelson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bull is just riding it out for now. Nelson eventually gives up the hold. Bull is staying active underneath Nelson, who seems content to just control the action from this position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gunnar Nelson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nelson smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Bull takes a shot right to the bread basket. Bull throws a body kick that misses. Bull moves out of range of the strikes. Bull throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Bull fails in his attempt to clinch. Nelson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bull moves away. Bull tries to clinch up. Bull tries to clinch up but Nelson circles away and keeps his distance. Bull tries to clinch but Nelson moves out of range. Nelson lands with a hook. Bull tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. This has been an exciting period of action! Nelson takes a swing at Bull's ribcage but misses. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nelson lands with a straight right. Bull didn't see that one coming. Nelson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bull is fending him off so far but Nelson persists. Nope, Bull circles away and we're back to standing. Bull wants to clinch and Nelson counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Bull thinking.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gunnar Nelson. Well Nelson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
