PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fabricio Werdum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Andy Drake told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andy Drake!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Vladimir Khabensky and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Drake wants to get up but he can't break Werdum's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Werdum had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Drake defends it easily.

Drake wants to pass the guard but Werdum is keeping the position.

Werdum is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Werdum is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Werdum tries to keep at a distance but Drake has taken the fight into the clinch.

Drake looks to land a combination but Werdum avoids it well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Drake throws a right hand that Werdum ducks under and follows up with a left that Werdum also avoids with ease.
Werdum moves in looking to clinch but Drake pushes him off.
Drake fails to land with a series of punches.
Good standup being displayed there by Drake as he connects with a hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Drake tries to bum rush Werdum with a series of wild strikes but Werdum uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Drake misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Drake shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Werdum eats them both and turns towards Drake to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Drake rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Werdum moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Drake stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Drake wants it to stay on the feet.
Andy Drake is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Drake looks to land a combination. Werdum sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Drake throws a right and a left that Werdum avoids nicely.

Drake gets caught napping as Werdum dives in and scores a takedown. Drake manages to retain guard.

Werdum thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Werdum drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Drake manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Werdum has Drake in his guard.

Werdum working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Drake doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Werdum is tightening it up a little... Drake has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Drake reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Drake taps out! Nice BJJ there by Werdum!
