PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Waters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Rocha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos Rocha has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jon Waters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carlos Rocha!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rocha showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Waters.
Rocha keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Waters.
Waters wants to clinch up but Rocha keeps it at a distance.
The fighters circle momentarily. Waters darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Rocha tries to close the distance and clinch but Waters swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rocha tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Waters swivels and escapes.
Waters connects with a nice looking jab.
Waters jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Waters looks to land a right hand but Rocha moved out of range.
Waters lands a nice hook to Rocha's body. Rocha takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Rocha slips under a jab.

Rocha has Waters up against the ropes in a clinch.
Rocha tries a body shot but Waters blocks it.

Rocha escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Waters throws a head kick but Rocha moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waters lands with a hook. Rocha tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Waters tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Rocha manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rocha should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jab, jab by Waters - just one landing.
Waters swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Waters wants to clinch.
Waters lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Rocha dodges the punch combination from Waters.
Waters throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rocha tries to clinch there but Waters circles away.
Rocha wants to clinch.

Rocha gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Waters lands an elbow inside.

Rocha manages to break the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rocha avoids a kick to the body.

Rocha darts in and clinches Waters up against the ropes.

Waters pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jon Waters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Waters connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Rocha takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Waters is looking to clinch but Rocha is avoiding it.
Waters displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rocha.
Rocha closes the distance and clinches up with Waters, looking for a takedown. Rocha pushes Waters against the ropes but Waters circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jon Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Rocha.
Rocha takes a swing at Waters's ribcage but misses.
Waters lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Rocha at a distance.

Waters drives through with a takedown into Rocha's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Waters trying to control but Rocha is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Waters drops back looking for a leg! Rocha is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rocha manages to kick Waters off! Waters jumps back into Rocha's guard.
Rocha avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Rocha can't keep his opponent in guard - Waters advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Waters is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rocha doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Waters.

Waters is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Waters frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Waters get's back to his feet.
Rocha shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Waters as he jumps to the side.
Waters displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Waters throws a sloppy head kick
and Rocha cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rocha misses with a two punch combination.
Waters is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
A low kick from Waters is predictable there
and Rocha counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Rocha tries to clinch but Waters moves out of range.
Waters lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Waters tries for a takedown but Rocha sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Waters connects with a looping right hand.
Jon Waters is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Waters thows a body shot but no joy.
Waters ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rocha moves away.
Waters displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rocha.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rocha.

Rocha decides to stand up, so the ref orders Waters to his feet.
Rocha shoots and misses
and Waters counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rocha shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Waters as he jumps to the side.
Jon Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Rocha.
Rocha dodges the punch combination from Waters.
Rocha is breathing heavily.
Waters getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waters looks to land a combination but Rocha avoids it well.
Waters connects with a single shot there.
Rocha on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Waters is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Waters thows a body shot but no joy.
Rocha is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Waters misses with a head kick.
Rocha shoots for a takedown but Waters saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nice takedown defense from Waters. No joy for Rocha on that attempt.

Waters shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Waters landing strikes from the mount and Rocha is in trouble!

Waters is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Rocha to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Rocha shrugs it off.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rocha wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Waters.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rocha has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Waters is hanging on to Rocha's back as he tries to escape.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Waters is working for a rear naked choke. Rocha is not defending it well and Waters has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Rocha refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Rocha's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jon Waters!
After winning the bout, Jon Waters thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
