PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Blankenship (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dillion Brody (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blankenship kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Crazy Train. Shane Blankenship has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shane Blankenship!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dillion Brody!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brody throws a right and a left that Blankenship avoids nicely.
Brody swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Brody lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Blankenship circles away quickly and effectively.
Brody swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Blankenship holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Blankenship manages to pull guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Brody postures up and lands a big shot to Blankenship's brow.

Blankenship is looking for a triangle but Brody pushes his legs off easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Blankenship is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Brody pushes Blankenship off looking to stand but Blankenship dives back in and keeps control.
Blankenship seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Blankenship stands up out of the half guard.
Some wild striking there from Brody.

Blankenship looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Blankenship is nestled in close to Brody, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Blankenship takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Blankenship looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Blankenship is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brody doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Blankenship.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Blankenship cracks Brody with a big elbow.
Blankenship controls the position.
Brody tries to escape but Blankenship is in control.
Brody is trying to escape the position but Blankenship is controlling the position.
Brody takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Shane Blankenship just wasn't active enough.
Brody throws a combination that misses

and Blankenship counters by clinching up.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Blankenship pulls guard effortlessly.
Brody throws a strike but Blankenship rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Blankenship stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Blankenship misses with a takedown attempt - Brody sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Blankenship lands with a nice body kick.
Brody looks gassed!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Brody throws a left and a right that both miss

and Blankenship holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Blankenship has hold of one of Brody's legs. Brody is fighting the takedown attempt but Blankenship gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Blankenship controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Blankenship dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Brody misses with a double jab
and Blankenship counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Blankenship looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Brody stuffs the takedown attempt from Blankenship. Blankenship gets slowly back to his feet.
Blankenship shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Brody as he jumps to the side.
Brody misses with a few strikes there.
Brody misses with a jab, cross combination.
Shane Blankenship is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Brody swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Blankenship counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Blankenship throws a head kick that misses.

Blankenship shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Blankenship was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Blankenship controlling the pace for now.
Brody is breathing heavily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Blankenship unloading with bombs!

Blankenship has control of Brody's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Brody regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Blankenship lands a big shot there that rocks Brody but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Blankenship controlling his opponent.

Blankenship has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Brody is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Shane Blankenship!
A very excited looking Shane Blankenship made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
