The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benedez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Diaz counters with a three punch combo that has Benedez backing up. Benedez nods at Diaz to acknowledge the strikes.
Benedez fails to land the takedown.
Diaz thows a body shot but no joy.
Diaz throws a head kick that Benedez semi-blocks.
Benedez avoids the head kick by Diaz.

Diaz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Benedez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Diaz as he avoids it easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Benedez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Diaz paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Diaz counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Diaz throws a sloppy head kick and Benedez moves out of range easily.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Benedez shoots in but no luck this time.

Diaz postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Benedez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Diaz, into his guard.

Diaz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Benedez defends well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Diaz pushes Benedez off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Benedez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Diaz avoids it really well and circles away.
