Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Knight! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trevor Reese! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Chad Campbell and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Knight feints and as Reese raises his hands in defense, Knight changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Reese is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Reese lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Knight! Knight is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Knight sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Knight wants to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Reese keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Knight is trying to maintain the position but Reese is very close to passing his half guard. Reese not doing much here.
I looks like Reese might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Knight avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Reese. Reese prevents Knight from improving his position. Reese is looking to take a break and control but Knight is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Reese prevents Knight from improving his position. Reese is keen to just control but Knight is a slippery customer.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Reese dodges the punch combination from Knight.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Knight tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Reese smiles and moves away.
Reese catches Knight with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Reese looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Knight! Knight is in all sorts of trouble here.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Reese gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Knight with a poor takedown and Reese counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Reese. Knight is breathing heavily. Reese sitting in guard, not really doing much. Reese trying to control the position from guard on top but Knight is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reese working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Knight's head. Reese won't allow Knight to sweep him here. Knight looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Reese trying to control the position but Knight is working away. Knight might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Reese in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Reese goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Knight has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Reese but great work by Knight. Knight throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Reese works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. The fighters are battling for position here. Reese manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Reese kicks Knight off and gets to his feet. Reese scores a takedown into full mount! Knight is wriggling around trying to escape.
Reese takes Knight's back, avoiding a couple of desperation strikes from the bottom.
