Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Hess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Dash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Hess. Dash slaps away a takedown attempt from Hess, before circling back to the center of the mat. Hess fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Dash to the ground. Hess is now in Dash's guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Hess drops back for a leg! Hess with a lazy takedown attempt and Dash counters with a body kick. Hess closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dash circles away. Dash fails with a takedown attempt. Hess shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Dash counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hess's guard now. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Hess. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hess working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dash doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dash manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Dash looking to sit in guard and control but Hess gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Dash is looking to stand up but Hess isn't so interested in that idea. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dash controls Hess momentarily but Hess frees himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hess advances to half guard. Hess is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dash doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hess. Hess is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hess seems to be looking for submissions.
Steve Hess overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hess looking to secure an arm triangle but Dash defends it well. Hess jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Dash manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hess has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Dash is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Hess yanks on the arm and Dash is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Hess.
