Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nova Summer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alister Jennings! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jennings closes the distance and clinches up with Summer, looking for a takedown. Jennings pushes Summer against the cage but Summer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Jennings fails with the takedown and Summer counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Jennings keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Summer content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Summer wants to pass to mount but Jennings is defending the position. Summer works his way into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Summer sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Jennings is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Summer with the ground and pound but Jennings regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Summer content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Summer is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Summer sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Jennings defending well though. Summer sitting and controlling from the half guard. Summer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Summer wants to take a breather but Jennings is having none of it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Nova Summer. Jennings fails with a takedown attempt. Nova Summer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alister Jennings. Summer lands a leg kick that knocks Jennings off balance momentarily. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Summer!
Jennings shoots in for a takedown but Summer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Jennings scores a takedown into full mount! Jennings looks gassed! Jennings moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Summer has worked his arm free - good work by Summer!
Summer tries to buck Jennings off but Jennings is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Summer holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jennings tries for a kimura but Summer is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Summer can't do much from the bottom here. Jennings is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Summer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Jennings is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Summer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Summer regains half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nova Summer dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Jennings doesn't succeed with the takedown and Summer counters by clinching up. Summer gets control of Jennings's arms and successfully pulls guard. Summer will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Jennings drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Summer dives on top into guard. Jennings is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Summer defends well. Jennings keeping moving, preventing Summer from controlling successfully. Jennings is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Summer is stalling in the full guard.
We're going to have a standup here because Nova Summer wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Summer changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jennings looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Summer working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Summer throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jennings tries to buck Summer off but Summer is having none of it. Summer moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Summer tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jennings is not content to let Summer control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. The ground and pound from Summer seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Summer stands up. Jennings tries for a takedown but Summer circles away easily letting Summer counter with a right hand. Jennings fails with the takedown. Nova Summer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alister Jennings. Jennings gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nova Summer dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Summer closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jennings did well to prevent Summer getting side control. It looks like Summer is going to stand back up.
Summer works his foot free and advances to mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Summer can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jennings is looking to escape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jennings really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Summer tries to control but Jennings wriggling away. Jennings is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Summer misses with a head shot. Summer raining down hammerfists from mount. Summer is standing up, even though he is in mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jennings will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Summer darts in and clinches Jennings up against the cage. A nice glancing elbow lands by Summer. Jennings wants the takedown. Summer is fighting it off but Jennings persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Summer's guard against the cage. Jennings has gone for a leg lock! Summer slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jennings's guard. Summer controlling from the top position. Nova Summer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Alister Jennings has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Summer throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jennings was covering up waiting for the punch and Summer finishes the takedown easily into guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Jennings keeping moving, preventing Summer from controlling successfully.
And that's the end of the fight! Nova Summer showed his dominance in that final round. Well Summer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
