PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Robert Fernan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Maya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maya has chosen Spitfire as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Damian Maya!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fernan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Maya tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Fernan is in Maya's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Fernan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Maya is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Maya has escaped and now he's on top!
Fernan wants to stand and escape but Maya is having none of it.

Fernan throws a series of punches but Maya avoids them all with ease.

No joy there for Fernan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Maya stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Fernan.

Fernan breaks from the clinch.
Fernan dips to his left and cracks Maya with an uppercut!
That kick from Fernan tenderised Maya's leg. Maya is trying to keep his angry face on.
Horrible takedown by Maya or perhaps it was just good defense by Fernan which made him look bad.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A combination from Fernan does no damage.
Fernan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Maya manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Fernan misses with a low kick.
Maya changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fernan tries to avoid it but Maya manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fernan to the ground. Fernan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Fernan drives through and clinches with Maya against the cage.
Maya has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Fernan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Fernan is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Maya is keeping busy.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Fernan obliges.

Maya seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fernan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
