Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Brecht (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Acton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brecht kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Dropkick Murphys - Warriors Code. Patrick Brecht has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Patrick Brecht! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Acton! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Acton gets the takedown into side control. Brecht manages to work his way to half guard, despite Acton's best efforts. Brecht trying to control from the bottom.
Acton is looking to advance position but Brecht won't allow it. Acton is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brecht doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Acton. Acton trying to control from half guard but Brecht is working away. Brecht tries to roll over but Acton keeps him under control. Acton is pressing down on Brecht's thigh, looking to free his foot. Brecht is holding on for now.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Brecht tries for a takedown but Acton circles away easily and Acton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brecht is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Acton pulls his head out easily. Brecht trying to control from the bottom.
Acton slips a nice elbow through Brecht's hands, connecting with Brecht's forehead. Acton seems to be looking for submissions.
Acton content to control rather than advance. Acton looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Brecht with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Acton has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Brecht regains full guard. Nicely done. Acton throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Brecht works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Acton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Brecht has his foot on Acton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Acton works his way back into a safe position though. Brecht looking for a sweep. Not yet Brecht, not yet. Acton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brecht swivels though and keeps the full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Acton content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Brecht looking to control.
Brecht is breathing heavily. Acton showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Acton shoots in and bounces Brecht off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Acton thows a big elbow that misses. Brecht keeping moving, preventing Acton from controlling successfully. Acton tries to free his leg and advance position but Brecht is retaining full guard. Brecht working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Acton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Acton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Brecht keeping full guard, as Acton tries to pass.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Acton trying to control but Brecht is working from the bottom. Acton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brecht is keeping the position for now. Brecht looking to control.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Brecht has his takedown stuffed and Acton counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Acton is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Brecht defends it well. Brecht slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Acton pushing down on Brecht's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Acton is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brecht doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Acton. Brecht pushes Acton off and gets back to his feet. Brecht feints and then cracks Acton's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Acton down. Acton misses with a takedown attempt and Brecht decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Acton's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Brecht trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Acton keeping moving, preventing Brecht from controlling successfully. Acton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brecht gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe Acton dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Brecht tries for a takedown but Acton circles away easily and Acton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Acton takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Acton is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Brecht is just riding it out for now. Acton eventually gives up the hold. Acton perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Acton is working for a kimura but Brecht is defending it quite comfortably.
Acton drops an elbow to the side of Brecht's head. Brecht is in trouble now - Acton has advanced to mount! Acton jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Brecht is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Brecht and Acton has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Acton is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Brecht knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Acton wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brecht keeps working. Acton tries for a kimura but Brecht is defending well. Acton thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Brecht is looking for a sweep. Brecht gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brecht is trying to get back to full guard. Acton is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Brecht has managed to free his arm - good work. Acton should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Brecht slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Acton pushes down on Brecht's leg and manages to get into half guard. Brecht works his way to full guard. Good work. Brecht is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Acton lands a couple of digs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Acton wants to control from the top but Brecht keeps moving. Acton pushes down on Brecht's leg and manages to get into half guard. Acton works his foot free and advances to mount. Brecht is trying to escape the mount.
Acton goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Brecht turns into him and now he's in Acton's guard.
Brecht won't allow Acton to sweep him here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Acton is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Acton uses his free foot to push down on Brecht's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Brecht. Acton is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Brecht is in real trouble.
Acton controlling from the back. Acton has got one arm under Brecht's chin. This could be trouble... Brecht trying to control the other hand but Acton gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Brecht has tapped out! The fight is over!
