PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Hoppus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luis Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva has chosen Addiction as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Hoppus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luis Silva!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoppus tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Silva scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Mark Hoppus has been cut.
Hoppus changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Silva tries to avoid it but Hoppus manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Silva to the ground. Silva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hoppus lands a high kick!
Hoppus circles away from the clinch attempt
and Hoppus counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Silva throws a half hearted mid kick.
Silva swings for the body but Hoppus moves out of range.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Silva has eaten all the pies!

Hoppus drives through and clinches with Silva against the cage.
Silva tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hoppus just stands there and leans against the cage.

Hoppus breaks from the clinch.
Silva lands a with a good body shot.
Hoppus tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hoppus lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Silva throws the left hand but Hoppus avoids the punch easily.

so Hoppus counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hoppus gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hoppus throws a head kick but Silva moves out of range.
Silva misses with a series of wild punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The crowd cheers as Hoppus lands an impressive looking overhand right. Silva doesn't seem phased though.

Silva moves into the clinch successfully.

Silva breaks the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Silva throws a body kick the misses
and Hoppus counters with an outside leg kick.

Hoppus shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hoppus showed some decent athleticism there.
Hoppus scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Hoppus lands strikes from half guard.
Hoppus missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Hoppus prevents Silva from improving his position.
Silva wants to control but Hoppus is keeping busy.
Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hoppus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hoppus uses his free foot to push down on Silva's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Silva.

Silva keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Silva wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Hoppus misses with an elbow to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hoppus is breathing heavily.
Hoppus lands shots from the back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Silva rolls, trying to escape but Hoppus keeps control of the position.
Silva is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Silva trying to control the hands but Hoppus won't let him.

Silva is covering up but some of the strikes from Hoppus are getting through and doing damage.
Silva is trapped and Hoppus is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Hoppus patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Hoppus connects with a big shot to the side of Silva's head.
Silva turns into Hoppus and is now in his guard.

Hoppus is looking for a triangle but Silva pushes his legs off easily.
Silva scoring with some ground and pound.
Hoppus striking off his back but it's not causing Silva any problems.

Hoppus manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Silva manages to get himself to full guard.
Hoppus lands a couple of elbows.

Hoppus throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Silva works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hoppus trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hoppus is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Silva is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Hoppus will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hoppus keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Silva's head.
Hoppus tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva is retaining full guard.
Hoppus lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hoppus stands up and waves to Silva to follow him.

Hoppus throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hoppus is pushing down on Silva's leg trying to pass to half guard. Silva is fighting to maintain full guard but Hoppus has managed to sneak the leg through.
Hoppus wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hoppus tries to close the distance and clinch but Silva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The fighters circle momentarily. Hoppus darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Hoppus uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Silva.
Mark Hoppus is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hoppus lands with a kick to the ribs.
Silva misses with a leg kick
and Hoppus counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Silva is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Hoppus keeps the fight on the outside.
Hoppus wants to clinch up but Silva keeps it at a distance.

Hoppus closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Silva to the mat! Silva manages to get full guard.

Hoppus decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Silva misses with a leg kick
and Hoppus counters with a nice leg kick.
Hoppus has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Silva throws a sloppy body shot
and Hoppus counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hoppus.
Hoppus is looking to take a break and control but Silva is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hoppus moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hoppus tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hoppus has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hoppus is pressing down on Silva's thigh, looking to free his foot. Silva is holding on for now.
Hoppus trying to control the action but Silva is working from the bottom.
Hoppus is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Hoppus decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Silva has had enough of the clinch but Hoppus keeps him there for the moment.

Hoppus fails with an attempt to clinch.

Hoppus gets the takedown into side control.

Hoppus cracks Silva with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Hoppus connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Hoppus moves to take his opponent's back.

Hoppus has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Silva! Can he survive? No! He's out! Hoppus gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mark Hoppus!
