The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maverick keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Maverick changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mixmaster looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mixmaster striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Mixmaster is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Maverick is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maverick throws and elbow that misses. Mixmaster uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Maverick's guard. Nice move by Mixmaster!
Mixmaster stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maverick swivels though and keeps the full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Maverick shoots in and bounces Mixmaster off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Mixmaster wants to clinch.
Maverick will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Maverick fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mixmaster sprawls well initially but Maverick persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

and Maverick counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Mixmaster is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and Maverick counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mixmaster won't be happy with that.
