PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Dirt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Dirt told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Roberts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Dirt!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roberts connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Dirt momentarily.
Dirt throws a jab when Roberts was well out of range.
Roberts scores with a punch to the head.
Chuck Roberts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Roberts shoots for a takedown but Dirt saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Dirt throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Roberts fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Roberts dips to his left and cracks Dirt with an uppercut!
Roberts throws out a powerful jab.


It looks like Joe Dirt has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Roberts drops Dirt with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Dirt looks back up at him and smiles so Roberts waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Dirt is rocked!

Roberts is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dirt's half guard.
Dirt is still in real trouble! Can Roberts finish him?
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Roberts throwing shots but Dirt is blocking nicely.

Roberts is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Dirt sees it coming and defends easily.
Dirt seems to have recovered his senses.

Roberts is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Dirt still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Dirt has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Dirt tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dirt has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Dirt goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Roberts rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Dirt's guard! Nice work there by Roberts!
Roberts is looking to stand up but Dirt won't let him.
Roberts has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Roberts is just content to waste time from the top position. Dirt takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Roberts not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Roberts wants to control from the top but Dirt keeps moving.
Roberts stands and throws Dirt's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Dirt manages to work his way to half guard, despite Roberts's best efforts.

Roberts thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dirt's head.

Roberts wants to clinch up but Dirt keeps it at a distance.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Dirt drives through with a takedown into guard.

Dirt drops back, looking for a kneebar! Roberts looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Roberts looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Roberts!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dirt parries the strikes from Roberts easily there. Roberts is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Dirt to escape.
Roberts is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Roberts stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Roberts misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Dirt thows a left - swing and a miss!
Roberts tries to clinch but Dirt moves out of range.
Roberts shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dirt sprawls well. Dirt wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Roberts gets slowly back to his feet.
A punch lands to the side of Dirt 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Dirt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Roberts, pushing him back against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Dirt.

Dirt breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Dirt throws an overhand right that lands on Roberts's shoulder, as Roberts tries to avoid the shot.
A slow jab from Dirt misses its intended target.
Dirt shoots for a double leg takedown but Roberts sprawls well. He's pushed Dirt's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Roberts scores with a decent looking hook.
Roberts shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Dirt eats them both and turns towards Roberts to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Roberts fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dirt takes one on the button.
The fight stays on the outside here - Roberts looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Joe Dirt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Roberts connects with a body shot that sends Dirt's belly button to the back.

Roberts shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dirt pinned against the cage. Dirt gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Roberts shoots in for a double leg but Dirt sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Roberts lands a glancing blow to the side of Dirt's head.

Dirt closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Roberts did well to prevent Dirt getting side control.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roberts is on top in guard.

Dirt had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Roberts defends it easily.
Dirt utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Roberts slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Roberts stands and throws Dirt's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Roberts swings around for an armbar but Dirt sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Roberts's guard.

Dirt drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Roberts dives on top into guard.
Roberts is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Dirt is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Roberts defends well.
Roberts wants to pass the guard but Dirt is keeping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dirt has his foot on Roberts's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Roberts works his way back into a safe position though.

Roberts wants to take a breather but Dirt is having none of it.

Roberts is trying for a kimura here. Dirt looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Roberts wins by kimura!
