PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between William Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Spang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Harrison might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to God's Gonna Cut You Down. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, William Harrison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Spang!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harrison slips a jab and a cross from Spang.

Harrison scores a takedown into full mount!
Harrison throwing strikes here but Spang is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Spang is just holding on here. Harrison manages to take his back.
Spang wants to control his opponent's hands but Harrison gets his hands free.
Harrison wants to control but Spang is keeping busy.
Spang can't escape the position.

Harrison working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Spang covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harrison gets his hands free as Spang looks to control.
Spang is trying to get back to his feet but Harrison has full control of the position and if anything, Spang has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Harrison is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Harrison has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Spang just trying to survive but Harrison is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Spang might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Harrison kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Harrison is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Spang defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Spang is trying to get back to his feet but Harrison has full control of the position and if anything, Spang has just worked his way into a worse spot.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A lull in the action here.
You can see the frustration on Spang's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spang is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Harrison off. It looks like it's working - Harrison slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Spang displaying calm under pressure there.

Spang throws a nice looking combination but Harrison bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Spang is looking to clinch.
Harrison avoids a punch combination nicely.
Spang tries to bum rush Harrison with a series of wild strikes but Harrison uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Harrison shoots in and drives through. Spang sprawls well.

Spang is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jack Spang is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Spang tries to close the distance and clinch but Harrison swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Harrison is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Spang knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Harrison creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Spang sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Spang is looking for a sweep.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Spang will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Harrison is staying tight to Spang's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Spang takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Harrison is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Spang has escaped the position, nice work there.

Harrison misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Spang parries the strikes from Harrison easily there. Harrison is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Spang to escape.
Harrison wants to lay and pray for a moment but Spang keeps working.
Spang tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Harrison wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Harrison is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Spang knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Harrison is looking to clinch but Spang is avoiding it.
Jack Spang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spang rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Harrison moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Spang fails with an attempt to clinch.
Harrison shoots for a double leg takedown but Spang sprawls well. He's pushed Harrison's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Harrison tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Spang swivels and escapes.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Spang takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Harrison takes a kick to the side of the head.

and Harrison counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Oh Harrison is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Spang wants to sweep but no luck.
Harrison wants to control from the top but Spang keeps moving.
Harrison seems to have got his legs back now.

Harrison wants to pass the guard but Spang is keeping the position.
Spang is looking to stand up but Harrison isn't so interested in that idea.

Harrison decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Spang, up you get!

Spang gets caught flat footed, as Harrison shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Harrison tries to free his leg and advance position but Spang is retaining full guard.
Spang looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Harrison is pushing down on Spang's leg trying to pass to half guard. Spang is fighting to maintain full guard but Harrison has managed to sneak the leg through.

Spang is trying to control but can't.

Harrison is looking for submissions but instead, Spang has regained full guard.

Harrison stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Spang misses with a two punch combination.
A chopping leg kick lands by Spang.
Harrison tries to close the distance and clinch but Spang swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Harrison tries for a takedown but Spang sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Spang throws a right and a left that Harrison avoids nicely.
Harrison shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Spang as he avoids it easily.

Spang misses with a series of wild punches.
Spang tries to clinch up but Harrison circles away and keeps his distance.
Harrison dodges the punch combination from Spang.
Spang moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Harrison misses with a wild body shot.
Harrison changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Spang tries to avoid it but Harrison manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Spang to the ground. Spang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for William Harrison. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A left and a right from Spang both land. Nice combination.
Spang throws a combination. Harrison tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Spang lands a head kick. Harrison smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
William Harrison is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Harrison feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

I would just about give that final round to Jack Spang.
I think Spang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
