Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Whales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simpson comes into the arena with The Fire by The Roots blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whales misses with an uppercut. Whales has Simpson up against the cage in a clinch.
Simpson tries to pull guard but Whales won't allow it.
Whales effectively controlling the action here. Simpson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
A frustrated look appears on Simpson's face as he tries to break the clinch. Simpson jumps guard but Whales stands there with Simpson around his waist. Simpson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Simpson. That's going to take a lot out of him. A bit of stalling here from Whales.
Simpson tries to work over Whales's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whales lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Simpson is trying to drag Whales to the mat but Whales just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Simpson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Whales just stands there and leans against the cage. Simpson looking to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Whales throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Simpsons head. A short right from Whales. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Whales creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Simpson can't find room to land a body shot as Whales controls the action.

Whales is defending well against a takedown attempt. Whales working some nice short punches in the clinch. Simpson fails to pull guard.
Whales lands a left hand that snaps the head of Simpson backwards. Simpson tries to land knees in the clinch but Whales avoids the damage to the body. Whales lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Simpson backwards.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Simpson stalling in the clinch but Whales improves position. Whales lands a body punch. Whales lands with a short shot to the head. Simpson looking to slow down the pace here. Simpson tries to pull guard but Whales holds him up against the cage and eventually Simpson drops back down to his feet.

Simpson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Simpson's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Simpson is rocked! Whales misses with a hook from the clinch. Simpson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Whales to keep the fight standing. Simpson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Whales just stands there and leans against the cage. Come on Whales - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Whales will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Simpson up against the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Patrick Whales dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Whales avoids the body shot from Simpson.
Simpson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Whales circles away quickly and effectively. Whales instigates a clinch. Still in the clinch, Whales scores with a nice short uppercut. A shot in the inside from Whales. Whales leaning against his opponent.
Simpson is trying to pull guard but Whales has him pressed against the cage. Whales has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Simpson regains guard immediately. Whales trying to control but Simpson is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whales scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Simpson keeping moving, preventing Whales from controlling successfully. Simpson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Whales looking to pass the guard. Simpson looking for a sweep. Not yet Simpson, not yet. Whales postures up in Simpson's guard and throws a big left but Simpson blocks it. Whales passes easily into side control. Nice work. Whales lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Simpson down.
Whales scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Simpson to see if he's OK.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Simpson on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Oh Simpson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Whales scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Simpson is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Whales can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
