Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James John! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marcelo Amolayeta! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Hirohito Nitta and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Amolayeta fails miserably with a takedown attempt. John shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Amolayeta napping and manages to drive through into side control! John stands up and beckons Amolayeta to his feet. A big left from John misses. Amolayeta fails with a takedown attempt. Amolayeta gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Amolayeta preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. John stays in close to Amolayeta's body and controls the position. John wants to control from the top but Amolayeta keeps moving. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Amolayeta is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst John is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round. John stopping the sweep attempt from Amolayeta. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
James John has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. John misses with a few strikes there.
Amolayeta will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. James John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcelo Amolayeta. Amolayeta has his takedown stuffed and John counters with a nice double leg into guard. Amolayeta trying to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Amolayeta is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. John is aware though and is defending well. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Amolayeta wants to sweep but no luck. John sitting in guard here, content to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Amolayeta manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
John wants to get back to his feet.
John is breathing heavily. John manages to regain half guard. Good work. Amolayeta is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! John is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Marcelo Amolayeta!
