PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Texas Pete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Neil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Texas Pete had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Texas Pete!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dave Neil!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Columbo Gatti and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pete gets caught napping as Neil dives in and scores a takedown. Pete manages to retain guard.
Neil postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neil wanted to stand there but Pete had control of the position.
Neil throwing strikes but missing.
Pete can't keep his opponent in guard - Neil advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Neil looking for a submission but Pete manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Neil would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Neil looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Neil drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Pete dives on top into guard.
Neil tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pete trying to stand up but can't free himself from Neil's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Neil is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pete is aware though and is defending well.

Pete gets to his feet - Neil follows without any prompting.
Pete thows a left - swing and a miss!
Neil shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pete sprawls well. Pete wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Neil gets slowly back to his feet.
Pete scores with a decent looking hook.
Pete throws the left hand but Neil avoids the punch easily.
No joy there for Pete, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Neil shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pete as he avoids it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Neil shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pete but Pete pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Texas Pete has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Neil.
Neil looks gassed!
Pete throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pete moves into range and connects with a jab.
Neil needs to keep his hands up - Pete had a free shot at his head there.


Neil is rocked!
Pete uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Neil is still on wobbly legs! Can Pete finish him?
Pete lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Neil circles away quickly and effectively.
Pete dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Pete dances in with a quick combination. Neil is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Pete snaps Neil's head back. Neil stumbles backwards against the cage. Pete steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Neil's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Neil just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Texas Pete!
