PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Richie McCaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Fletcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fletcher is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Gallows - London is the reason. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Richie McCaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Fletcher!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Daniel Bishop and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Fletcher. Those never looked like landing.
Fletcher misses with a two punch combination.

McCaw drives through with a takedown into Fletcher's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
McCaw's corner is telling him to maintain position.
McCaw trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
McCaw sitting in guard here, content to control.
Fletcher really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McCaw. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McCaw throws a big right hand that misses.
McCaw is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Richie McCaw has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Fletcher doesn't succeed with the takedown
and McCaw counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fletcher doesn't manage to clinch there - McCaw circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fletcher takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

so McCaw counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
McCaw slips nicely into half guard.
McCaw has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McCaw controlling the pace.
McCaw prevents Fletcher from standing back up.
McCaw looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fletcher with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McCaw perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McCaw has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
McCaw looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fletcher with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
McCaw controlling the pace.

McCaw looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
McCaw is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
McCaw scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCaw takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

McCaw is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fletcher sees it coming and defends easily.
McCaw is controlling the pace.
McCaw lands strikes from half guard.
McCaw is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
McCaw throwing strikes but missing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fletcher is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
McCaw is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
McCaw working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
McCaw engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
McCaw makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
McCaw working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
McCaw seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
McCaw works over Fletcher with some ground and pound from guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richie McCaw dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



McCaw shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Fletcher napping and manages to drive through into side control!
McCaw cracks Fletcher with a big right hand but Fletcher just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

McCaw has an Americana. Fletcher didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! McCaw is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if McCaw hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Richie McCaw!
Our winner, Richie McCaw, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
