Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Laid! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Samir Vasquez! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vasquez shoots for a takedown but Laid saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Vasquez throws a hook to the side of Laid's head but Laid sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Vasquez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Laid counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Laid thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vasquez's head. Laid is nestled in close to Vasquez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Laid is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Vasquez has managed to free his arm - good work. Vasquez avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Laid. Vasquez keeping hold of Laid's head, controlling as best he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Laid working the head and body with strikes. Laid is trying to work for a kimura but Vasquez is defending well.
Laid not landing any meaningful shots this time. Laid sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Vasquez defending well though. Vasquez is trying to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Laid is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Vasquez has managed to free his arm - good work. Laid is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Vasquez is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
