PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tatsumi Fujinami (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Napier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tatsumi Fujinami!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andrew Napier!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Napier will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Fujinami feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Fujinami slips nicely into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Napier can do anything to dispel that myth.
Napier misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Fujinami wants to pass to mount but Napier is defending the position.

Fujinami is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Napier defends it well.
Napier is trying to maintain the position but Fujinami is very close to passing his half guard.
Fujinami is pressing down on Napier's thigh, looking to free his foot. Napier is holding on for now.
Napier tries to roll over but Fujinami keeps him under control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fujinami is taking a breather. Napier says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Fujinami shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Fujinami showed some decent athleticism there.
Fujinami is looking to take a break and control but Napier is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fujinami stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Napier wants to control but Fujinami is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Napier tries to roll over but Fujinami keeps him under control.
Fujinami content to control rather than advance.
Napier wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Napier is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Fujinami pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Napier wants to improve his position but Fujinami is controlling well.
Fujinami is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Fujinami is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Napier has managed to free his arm - good work.
Fujinami is breathing heavily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Fujinami misses with a takedown
and Napier connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Fujinami shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Napier as he avoids it easily.
Fujinami swats away the attempt to clinch by Napier.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Napier tries to close the distance and clinch up but Fujinami swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Napier gets caught flat footed, as Fujinami shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Napier wants to stand but Fujinami is controlling the position.
Fujinami content to stall in guard here.
Napier avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tatsumi Fujinami dominated that round.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Fujinami misses with a takedown

and Napier counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Napier.
Fujinami has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Fujinami is looking to sinch up a triangle. Napier throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Fujinami's body to avoid the submission. Fujinami has instead reached around Napier's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Fujinami arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Tatsumi Fujinami!
