PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abel Joseph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffin comes into the arena with Crazy Train blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Abel Joseph enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Phil Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Abel Joseph!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin walks into a straight right hand from Joseph.


It looks like Phil Griffin has been cut.
Nice sprawl there from Joseph as Griffin shoots in.
A big left from Joseph misses.
Joseph lands a really nice looking cross but Griffin seems unphased.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Joseph changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Griffin tries to avoid it but Joseph manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Griffin to the ground. Griffin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No luck for Griffin with that takedown attempt.
Joseph lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Griffin circles away quickly and effectively.
Griffin shoots in looking for a takedown but Joseph manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Griffin's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil Griffin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Griffin is breathing heavily.
Joseph fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Griffin. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Joseph shoots in for a takedown but Griffin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Joseph is defended easily by Griffin.
Joseph misses with a looping right.

Joseph jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Griffin stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Griffin wants it to stay on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Joseph enables Griffin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Joseph manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Joseph trying to control the position.
Griffin wants to pass the guard but Joseph is keeping the position.
Griffin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Joseph is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Griffin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Joseph wants to stand and escape but Griffin is having none of it.
Joseph manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Griffin really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Joseph stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Joseph misses the shot to the body.
Griffin shoots for a takedown but Joseph saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Joseph shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Griffin defends it nicely.
Griffin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Joseph is fending him off so far but Griffin persists. Nope, Joseph circles away and we're back to standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A jab lands there for Joseph.


Phil Griffin's cut is getting worse.
Abel Joseph seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Joseph feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Griffin sprawling to the canvas! Griffin rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Joseph finish him?!


Griffin is rocked!
Griffin switches off momentarily and Joseph cracks him with a monster right hand! Griffin topples backwards and makes a semi conscious attempt to cover up, as Joseph dives in to land one more shot, before the referee has time to call the fight. What a finish by Joseph!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Abel Joseph!
