Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dave Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Reddiker Von Shlatke!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Von Shlatke sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Von Shlatke looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Smith with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Smith wants to work for an arm triangle but Von Shlatke is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Smith is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Von Shlatke has managed to free his arm - good work.
Smith landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Smith stands up from half guard.
Smith moves into range and clinches up with Von Shlatke.
Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into Von Shlatke's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Von Shlatke is working an open guard so Smith takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Smith moves into the clinch successfully.
Smith stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Von Shlatke tries to sprawl but Smith drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Von Shlatke is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots.
Smith decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Smith is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Smith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Smith drops Von Shlatke with a beautiful combination! Von Shlatke stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Smith is looking for the KO!
Von Shlatke is rocked!
It looks like Reddiker Von Shlatke has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Von Shlatke is starting to get sloppy and is letting his hands down. Smith just took advantage and landed a stinging jab. Oh! Now a right hook, right on the button! Von Shlatke has gone limp and this one is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Dave Smith!
Dave Smith took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
