Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sonny Boom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Makaawa Labasan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sonny Boom has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sonny Boom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Makaawa Labasan!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom tries to close the distance and clinch but Labasan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Boom has taken the fight to the clinch.
Labasan tries for a takedown but Boom manages to get underhooks.
Boom is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Labasan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Boom gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Boom gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
The referee is keeping an eye on Boom - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Boom's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sonny Boom is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Boom doesn't manage to clinch there - Labasan circles away.
Labasan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Boom avoids it really well and circles away.
Sonny Boom has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Makaawa Labasan.
Labasan keeps the fight on the outside.

Boom closes the distance but Labasan moves to the side

and Labasan counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Labasan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Boom defends it well.

Boom is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boom holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Boom won't allow Labasan to pass to mount.
Boom tries to get to full guard but Labasan has control of the leg.
Labasan wants to free his trapped foot but Boom is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Labasan moves nicely into side control.
Boom is looking to reverse the position.
Labasan tries to advance to mount but can't.
Boom gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Labasan is pressing down on Boom's thigh, looking to free his foot. Boom is holding on for now.
Boom keeping hold of Labasan's head, controlling as best he can.
Boom knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Labasan on the ground.
Boom keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Labasan trying to pass the guard but Boom defending well.

Labasan is looking for a kimura but Boom is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Labasan to get the leverage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Boom is trying to stand up here but Labasan is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sonny Boom will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Boom tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Boom connects with a body shot that sends Labasan's belly button to the back.

and Labasan counters with a single leg into guard. Boom didn't expect that.
Labasan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boom swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Labasan is fighting to break Boom's control of his arms but Boom is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Boom tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Labasan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Labasan is breathing heavily.

Boom has Labasan pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sonny Boom.
Boom stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Boom wants it to stay on the feet.

Boom moves into the clinch.
Boom landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Boom lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Boom lands with a light punch inside.

Boom breaks from the clinch.
Labasan keeps the fight on the outside.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Boom doesn't manage to clinch there - Labasan circles away.
Boom lands a nice looking body kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

That kick from Boom tenderised Labasan's leg. Labasan is trying to keep his angry face on.
The fight stays on the outside here - Boom looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Good exchange - Boom coming out on top.

Boom lands a big head kick that sends Labasan tumbling to the mat! Boom takes a step backwards and waves Labasan back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Labasan is rocked!


It looks like Makaawa Labasan has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Boom closes the distance and clinches.
Labasan is still on wobbly legs! Can Boom finish him?
Boom lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Labasan is working for takedown but Boom is calmly controlling the position for now.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Boom.
Boom stalls.
Boom lands a good knee to the midsection. Labasan won't want to take too many of those.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boom lands with a short shot to the head.
Boom avoiding damage.
Boom creates a bit of distance and unloads a huge uppercut that knocks Labasan out cold! The ref dives in to break up the two fighters! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Sonny Boom!
