Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nissin Miojo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Liam Thomas! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab from Thomas misses. Miojo with a lazy takedown attempt and Thomas moves into the clinch. Thomas with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Thomas stalls. Thomas is defending well against a takedown attempt. Thomas struggles to land a body shot inside as Miojo controls his hands.
Miojo wants a takedown but no success here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nissin Miojo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Thomas lands with a light punch inside. Thomas scores with a hook to the body. Thomas is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Thomas is pushing Miojo up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Miojo tries for a takedown. No joy.

Thomas pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Miojo tumbling to the mat - Thomas dives into Miojo's guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Thomas throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Miojo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Thomas lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Miojo keeping moving, preventing Thomas from controlling successfully. Miojo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Miojo is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Thomas trying to control the position from guard on top but Miojo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Thomas wants to pass the guard but Miojo is keeping the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Miojo shoots for a takedown but Thomas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Thomas swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Miojo counters with a shoot takedown. Thomas fights it but they end up in guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thomas can do anything to dispel that myth. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Miojo showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Thomas is trying to keep Miojo in close.
Miojo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We're going to have a standup here because Nissin Miojo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Thomas throws out a loose jab but Miojo uses good head movement to avoid it. Miojo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily enabling Thomas to counter with a crisp jab. Thomas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Miojo moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Thomas slaps away a takedown attempt from Miojo, before circling back to the center of the mat. Miojo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Liam Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Miojo drives through with a takedown into guard. Thomas is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Thomas can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Miojo controls the pace. Thomas wants to sweep but no luck. Thomas trying to control the position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Miojo is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Miojo prevents Thomas from improving his position. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Thomas wants to control but Miojo is keeping busy.

and Miojo counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Thomas! Thomas wants to control but Miojo is having none of it. Miojo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Thomas is desperately trying to improve his position but Miojo has a good base and remains in mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thomas is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Miojo sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Thomas really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

That's one minute gone in the round. Miojo prevents Thomas from getting the reversal. Miojo content just to control the position here. Thomas tries to get back to half guard but can't. Miojo controlling his opponent. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Thomas bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Thomas trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Miojo manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Miojo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Miojo looks for a takedown but Thomas sprawls well. Miojo tries for a takedown but Thomas circles away easily and Thomas counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. No luck for Miojo with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nissin Miojo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Thomas looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas leaves Miojo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Thomas looks to throw the jab but Miojo is out of range. Miojo shoots in but Thomas avoids the takedown attempt easily. Miojo ducks under a wild hook from Thomas. Miojo tries for a takedown but Thomas circles away easily and Thomas makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Nissin Miojo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Thomas fails with a takedown attempt. Miojo shoots in looking for a takedown. Thomas tries to sprawl out of it but Miojo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thomas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Miojo on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Miojo misses with a takedown and Thomas counters with a right hand to the body. Thomas throws a looping overhand right but Miojo ducks down to avoid it. Miojo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Thomas pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Thomas lands a slapping body shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Thomas throws a hook but Miojo blocks it. Thomas misses with a looping right. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Miojo moves away from the strike by Thomas. Miojo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Thomas but Thomas pushes him off and we're back to square one. A swing and a miss from Thomas. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Liam Thomas will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

That's one minute gone in the round. Miojo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Thomas sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Thomas throws out a loose jab but Miojo uses good head movement to avoid it. Thomas misses with a straight right. Miojo shoots in for a double leg but Thomas sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Thomas loads up on a big right hand but Miojo slips the punch. Thomas gets the takedown into side control. Thomas sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Miojo is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Thomas working away. The strikes coming from Thomas are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Thomas creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Miojo sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Thomas wants to control but Miojo is keeping him busy. Nissin Miojo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Miojo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Thomas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Miojo keeps working. Thomas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Miojo, who protects the arm well. Thomas tries to move to mount but Miojo blocks the move with his legs. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Miojo is trying to control Thomas's posture but Thomas avoids it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Thomas tries to move into full mount but can't pass Miojo's legs. Miojo parries the strikes from Thomas easily there. Thomas is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Miojo to escape.
Thomas misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Thomas has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Miojo! Miojo wants to control but Thomas is having none of it. Thomas goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Miojo turns into him and now he's in Thomas's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Thomas controls Miojo momentarily but Miojo frees himself. Miojo won't allow Thomas to sweep him here. Miojo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Miojo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Thomas for as long as he can get away with. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that's the end of the fight! Liam Thomas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Thomas winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
