PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Soa Kawai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kimbo Sapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Soa Kawai! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kimbo Sapp! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sapp avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kawai misses the jab. Kawai waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sapp. Kawai motions for Sapp to come forward. Kawai throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Kawai throws an off balance right hand
and Sapp counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kawai thinking. Kawai waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sapp. Sapp misses with a takedown attempt - Kawai sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Kawai stuffs the takedown attempt from Sapp. Sapp gets slowly back to his feet. Kawai misses with a left hand and Sapp cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Sapp is looking to score with low kicks. Sapp changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kawai tries to avoid it but Sapp manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kawai to the ground. Kawai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Soa Kawai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kimbo Sapp. Kawai stalks Sapp and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sapp's face. Sapp staggers backwards, shaken.
It looks like Kimbo Sapp has been cut. Sapp looks gassed! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kawai throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Sapp counters with a left and a right that stings Kawai. Kawai has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sapp tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kawai smiles and moves away.
Kawai throws the left hand but Sapp avoids the punch easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sapp on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Kawai fails to land with a series of punches.
Sapp slips a jab from Kawai. Sapp fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Kawai circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Sapp to the canvas! Sapp doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Kawai keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Soa Kawai! Soa Kawai tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
