Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dean Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phil Ryan struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 157.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Dean Martin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Phil Ryan! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martin scores with a jab to the body. Martin takes a swing at Ryan's ribcage but misses. Martin looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Ryan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Martin misses with a few strikes there.
Martin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ryan. Ryan moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Martin jabbing away but nothing is landing. Martin thows a body shot but no joy. Martin misses with a body shot.
Ryan looks to land a combination but Martin avoids it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martin misses with a double jab
and Ryan counters with a takedown into side control. Martin is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ryan asserts his dominance and retains side control. Martin is being controlled here. Ryan tries for a kimura but Martin is defending well. Ryan tries to move to mount but Martin blocks the move with his legs. Martin wants to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martin is being controlled here. Martin is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ryan has just dragged him back down to the mat. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ryan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Martin keeps working. The referee asks Ryan politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ryan prefers to stall for the moment though. Martin wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Martin trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Martin is breathing heavily. Ryan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ryan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Martin is trying to escape the position but Ryan is controlling the position. Ryan stands up and beckons Martin to his feet. Ryan throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Martin stuffs the takedown attempt from Ryan. Ryan gets slowly back to his feet. Dean Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Ryan.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nice cross by Martin. Ryan throws a shot from downtown. Martin moves away and avoids it. Martin throws a sloppy body shot
and Ryan counters with a lovely straight right hand! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ryan. The fight moves into the clinch position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ryan looking for a takedown. Martin manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Phil Ryan dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Ryan looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Nice body kick there by Martin. Ryan shoots for a takedown but Martin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Ryan shoots in but Martin avoids the takedown attempt easily. Dean Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Ryan. Martin stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Martin throws a right and a left that Ryan avoids nicely. Ryan takes a body punch but keeps moving. Martin misses with a few strikes there.
Ryan has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ryan on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Martin scores to the head and body with a nice combination! A jab from Martin finds it's way through Ryan's defenses. Martin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. A big right from Martin misses. Martin misses with a wild body shot. Martin fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Ryan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Dean Martin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Martin misses with an uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martin takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Ryan misses with a takedown attempt - Martin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Martin fails to land with a series of punches.
Martin throws a low kick but Ryan moves out of range easily. Sloppy strikes from Martin. Those never looked like landing. Martin tries to work over Ryan's front leg with a kick but Ryan checks it. Martin fails to land with a series of punches.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Martin motions for Ryan to come forward. Martin throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Martin throws a right hand that misses
and Ryan counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. An inside leg kick from Martin misses. Martin throws a combination that misses and Ryan counters by clinching up. A frustrated look appears on Martin's face as he tries to break the clinch. Ryan gets control of Martin's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ryan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Ryan is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Martin tries to stand but Ryan is controlling from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Martin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ryan, up you get! Ryan tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Martin connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Ryan's hands. Martin swinging wildly here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Martin misses with a double jab
and Ryan makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Martin misses with a combination

Martin throws a head kick that misses and Ryan counters with a left and a right that stings Martin. Dean Martin is winning the standup battle so far. Ryan misses with a series of wild punches.
Martin throws a right hand that Ryan ducks under and follows up with a left that Ryan also avoids with ease. Ryan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Martin swivels and escapes. Martin throws a body punch but Ryan moves out of range. An inside leg kick lands from Martin. Martin misses with a body shot.
Ryan scores with a shot to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. A punch combination from Martin misses. Martin lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Martin throws a combination that misses and Ryan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Martin's guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Ryan won't allow Martin to get back to his feet. Ryan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Ryan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Ryan wants to control from the top but Martin keeps moving. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Ryan won't allow Martin to get back to his feet. Phil Ryan has got the better of the ground game so far.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Phil Ryan wasn't active enough on the ground. A momentary lapse in concentration from Martin enables Ryan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Martin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Martin can't keep his opponent in guard - Ryan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Ryan wants to take a breather but Martin is having none of it. Ryan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Martin is just riding it out for now. Ryan eventually gives up the hold. Ryan controlling the action here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ryan is looking to advance position but Martin won't allow it. Martin wants to get back to his feet.
Ryan is keen to just control but Martin is a slippery customer. Martin is trying to stand back up but Ryan is controlling him
Ryan is looking to take a break and control but Martin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ryan stops Martin from getting back to his feet.
Phil Ryan has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Ryan with a poor takedown and Martin counters with a straight right hand. A looping hook to the body misses from Martin. Ryan does a little dance to reset his feet. Ryan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martin tries to avoid it but Ryan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martin to the ground. Martin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Dean Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Ryan. Martin looks to score with a jab to the body but Ryan is just out of range. Ryan takes a shot right to the bread basket. Martin misses with a double jab.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Martin scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Martin looks to land a combination but Ryan avoids it well.
