PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Waltteri Waara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caleb Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffin is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by You Fight Me by Breaking Benjamin. Caleb Griffin is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Waltteri Waara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Caleb Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin doesn't manage to clinch there - Waara circles away.

Griffin scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Griffin gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Waara regains guard.
Waara is striking off his back. Griffin thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Griffin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Waara does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Waara manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Griffin clinches but Waara breaks the clinch
and Waara counters with a good low kick that Griffin was not able to check.
Griffin chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Waara can pounce on him.
Waara shoots for a takedown but Griffin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Griffin dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Griffin scoring well with a low kick there.

Griffin gets a clinch.
Griffin lands a knee to the body.

Griffin pulls Waara into guard.
Griffin is trying to control the position but Waara postures up.
Griffin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Waara tries to get to full guard but Griffin has control of the leg.

Waara kicks off Griffin and gets to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Griffin counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Griffin.
Griffin wants to break the clinch but can't.
Waara lands an elbow inside that Griffin shrugs off.
Waara can't get the takedown.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Waara tries to land knees in the clinch but Griffin avoids the damage to the body.

Waara is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Griffin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Waara.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Waara gets a clinch.
Waara is looking to control Griffin's arms but Griffin gets an underhook and turns him. Now Waara has his back to the cage.

Griffin pulls Waara into guard.
Waara is fighting to break Griffin's control of his arms but Griffin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Waara is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Waara is on top in guard.
Waara stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Griffin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Waara stands and steps away. Griffin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Waara darts in trying to clinch
and Griffin counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Waara finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Griffin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Waara's guard.
Griffin wants to control from the top but Waara keeps moving.
Griffin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Griffin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Griffin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Griffin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Caleb Griffin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Griffin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
