Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chris Benoit! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andreu Nicolopoulos! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Fedor Mirinova and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nicolopoulos closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Benoit quickly recovers to half guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Benoit trying to control here.
Nicolopoulos wants to free his trapped foot but Benoit is holding on for dear life with his legs. Benoit pushes Nicolopoulos off looking to stand but Nicolopoulos dives back in and keeps control.
Nicolopoulos looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Nicolopoulos trying to mount his opponent but Benoit defends it. Benoit throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Nicolopoulos is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Benoit defends it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nicolopoulos trying to mount his opponent but Benoit defends it. Benoit has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nicolopoulos is working away from the top position though. Benoit throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Nicolopoulos manages to pass to side control. Benoit struggling a bit here. Benoit is looking to reverse the position. Benoit is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Benoit is looking to get back to his feet here but Nicolopoulos is keeping cool and he's managed to take Benoit's back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Benoit holding both Nicolopoulos 's hands and preventing any damage. Nicolopoulos is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Benoit is tapping out! This one is all over!
