Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Alexander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matheus Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Alves! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alexander tries to clinch but fails miserably and Alves counters with a flying knee. Nice. A nice inside leg kick there by Alexander. That's going to slow Alves down. Alves fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Alexander shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Alves as he jumps to the side. Alexander has closed the distance and engaged Alves in a clinch.
Alexander jumps guard but Alves stands there with Alexander around his waist. Alexander gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Matheus Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Alexander misses with a takedown attempt - Alves sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Alves takes the fight into the clinch. Alves breaks from the clinch.

Alexander bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Alves managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Alexander.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Alexander. Alexander has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Alves looks gassed! Alexander postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alexander in side control lands a decent elbow. Alves is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Alexander taking a breather here. Alves wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Alexander is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Alves will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Alexander is looking to take a break and control but Alves is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Miguel Alexander will probably get the nod. That's time! Alexander's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Alexander wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Alves has him pressed against the cage. Alves takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Alexander is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Alves to keep the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miguel Alexander. That's going to take a lot out of him. Alexander using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Alves has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Alves ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Alves no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Alexander got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alves has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alexander has managed to get both his arms back between Alves's legs - danger averted. Alexander tries to free his leg and advance position but Alves is retaining full guard. Alves keeping moving, preventing Alexander from controlling successfully. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Alexander throws a big right hand that misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alexander is taking a breather. Alves says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Alves is trying to stand up here but Alexander is controlling him well.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Miguel Alexander. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alexander, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
