PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Quentin Cane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and M J Shain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cane comes to the cage accompanied by Rob Zombie - What. Shain is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Thunderstruck. Quentin Cane could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to M J Shain's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Quentin Cane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, M J Shain!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Roberts and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cane dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Cane shoots in looking for a takedown but Shain manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cane's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
M J Shain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shain missing with a left hand there. Cane was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Shain defending well as Cane loads up on a big left hand.
Shain throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Shain keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Shain looks to score with a jab to the body but Cane is just out of range.
Cane staying out of range there.
Shain thows a left - swing and a miss!

Cane clinches up against the cage.
Shain tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Cane tries for a takedown but Shain manages to get underhooks.

Cane lands a nice shot to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cane is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Shain pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Cane gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Shain regains guard.

Shain is pulling down on Cane's head. It's preventing any offense from Cane, at least for the moment.
Cane seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Cane wants to control from the top but Shain keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Shain ducks under a wild hook from Cane.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cane is defended easily by Shain.
Cane fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Cane moves in looking to clinch but Shain pushes him off.
Shain takes a swing at Cane's ribcage but misses.

Cane changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shain looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cane is looking to take a break and control but Shain is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cane staying calm.
Shain tries to bench press Cane off him but Cane keeps the position.
A lull in the action here as Cane stalls from top position.

Cane works to advance to full mount. Shain defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Quentin Cane.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cane is defended easily by Shain.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cane tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shain sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cane somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quentin Cane dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Cane gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Shain.
Cane closes the distance and clinches up with Shain, looking for a takedown. Cane pushes Shain against the cage but Shain circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Shain. No joy for Cane on that attempt.
Cane shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shain defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Quentin Cane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shain misses with an uppercut.

Cane shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Cane slows the pace down in half guard.
Cane prevents Shain from improving his position.
Quentin Cane overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Shain is trying to control but can't.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by M J Shain.

Cane fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shain, pushing him back against the cage.
Shain misses with a hook from the clinch.
Cane wants to take the fight to the mat but Shain manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Shain is pressed up against the cage. Cane has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Shain down to the mat. Shain avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Cane misses with a straight left.
Shain ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Shain is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Cane rather than just go for the knockout.
A punch lands to the side of Cane 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Shain throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cane stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Shain displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cane.
Shain defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cane.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shain stuffs the takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cane's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Shain connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cane scrambles back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cane lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Cane tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shain sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cane somewhat.
Cane fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Shain connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Cane's hands.
Quentin Cane is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cane.
Shain lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Cane closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like M J Shain has been cut.
Cane jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Cane misses with an uppercut.
A punch lands to the side of Cane 's head but he takes it in his stride.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice cross by Shain.
Shain fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Cane to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Cane looks to clinch but Shain throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Cane taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). M J Shain!
